Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mike Valentine! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Billy Napranum! The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Bruno Hogan and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Valentine closes the distance and pushes Napranum back into the cage. Valentine turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Valentine taking a breather here. Valentine is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Napranum knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Valentine decides to take the fight back to the feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Valentine shoots in but no luck this time. Valentine misses with a looping right. Napranum lands a head kick!

Nice takedown defense from Napranum. No joy for Valentine on that attempt. A head kick from Napranum lands but Valentine takes it in his stride. Valentine tries to close the distance and clinch up but Napranum swats him away and circles back towards the center. Napranum tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Napranum tries to clinch up. The fight stays on the outside here - Napranum looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Napranum throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Valentine. Billy Napranum seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Napranum wants to clinch. Valentine takes a head kick and keeps coming.

That's two minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Napranum throws a head kick that Valentine semi-blocks.

Valentine fails in his attempt to clinch. Napranum gets in close and instigates a clinch. Napranum tries a knee to the head but Valentine blocks it.
Napranum makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Napranum misses with a knee to the head. Valentine breaks from the clinch.
Valentine has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Valentine tries to clinch up. Valentine tries to clinch up but Napranum circles away and keeps his distance. Napranum has Valentine up against the cage in a clinch.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Valentine looking for a sweep. Not yet Valentine, not yet. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Valentine throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Napranum tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Valentine is in Napranum's guard. Valentine might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Valentine looking to sit in guard and control but Napranum gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Valentine wants to get back to his feet but Napranum is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Valentine had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Napranum defends it easily. Valentine working for a triangle but Napranum defends it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Mike Valentine will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Mike Valentine's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Valentine takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Napranum scores with a punch to the head. Mike Valentine is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Valentine tries for a takedown but Napranum sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. No luck with that takedown attempt from Valentine. Napranum wants to clinch. Napranum wants to clinch up but Valentine keeps it at a distance. Valentine wants to clinch up but Napranum keeps it at a distance. Napranum tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Valentine goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Napranum wants to clinch but Valentine slips to the side and Valentine counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Napranum! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Valentine is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Napranum has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Napranum! Napranum must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's one minute gone in the round. Valentine throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. Valentine keeping moving, preventing Napranum from controlling successfully. Valentine looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Napranum puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Napranum is trying to control the action in half guard but Valentine is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Valentine is looking to control Napranum's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Valentine avoid being mounted? Napranum really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Valentine. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Valentine wants to control the action here but instead Napranum manages to pass to full mount! Napranum prevents Valentine from getting the reversal. Valentine slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Valentine is pressing down on Napranum's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Valentine has a closed guard, preventing Napranum from standing up. Valentine is looking to sweep but instead, Napranum has passed into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Valentine is looking to improve his position.
Napranum content to control rather than advance. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Valentine has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Napranum is working away from the top position though. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mike Valentine dominated that second round. The cut man is working on Mike Valentine's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!
Napranum delivers a nice body kick. Valentine tries to close the distance and clinch but Napranum swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Napranum clinches. Napranum with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Valentine takes a knee to the side of the body. Napranum tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Napranum breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Valentine looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Valentine thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Napranum's head. Valentine missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Valentine is controlling the pace.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Napranum is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Valentine scores with a couple of nice shots.

Valentine looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Valentine is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Napranum has managed to free his arm - good work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Valentine throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Valentine not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Valentine is trying to control the action in half guard but Napranum is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Valentine is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Napranum sees it coming and defends easily. Valentine seems to be working for a kimura but Napranum defends the submission attempt. Valentine looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. Valentine is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Napranum reverses the position - he's now on top in Valentine's guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Valentine thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
And that's the end of the fight! Mike Valentine showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Valentine, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
