PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Trapp Deathgrip (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kazushi Sakuraba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Kazushi Sakuraba was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Trapp Deathgrip!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kazushi Sakuraba!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Ren Mimura and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sakuraba scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Deathgrip shoots in for a takedown but Sakuraba shows good takedown defense.

and Sakuraba counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Deathgrip's guard now.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Sakuraba passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Sakuraba tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Sakuraba has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sakuraba working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Deathgrip is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Sakuraba's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Sakuraba is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Deathgrip still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Deathgrip has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Sakuraba manages to work his way to half guard, despite Deathgrip's best efforts.

Sakuraba manages to get to full guard.

Deathgrip sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Sakuraba's guard.
Sakuraba is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Deathgrip looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Sakuraba gets back to full guard.
Deathgrip looking to pass the guard.
Deathgrip distracts Sakuraba with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Sakuraba is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Sakuraba wants to work for an arm triangle but Deathgrip is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Sakuraba is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Deathgrip manages to get to full guard.
Sakuraba stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Deathgrip swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Deathgrip is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sakuraba is pressing down on Deathgrip's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Deathgrip is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kazushi Sakuraba dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Sakuraba misses with a double jab.
Deathgrip fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Sakuraba on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Deathgrip closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sakuraba circles away.
Sakuraba keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Sakuraba throws a nice looking combination but Deathgrip bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Sakuraba drives through with a takedown into Deathgrip's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Kazushi Sakuraba has got the better of the ground game so far.

Deathgrip is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Sakuraba tries to free his leg and advance position but Deathgrip is retaining full guard.
Sakuraba is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Deathgrip won't allow Sakuraba to pass to mount.

Sakuraba seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Deathgrip is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
