Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Also Zarathustra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paavo Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zarathustra comes to the cage accompanied by Red Birds Will Fly Out Of The East And Destroy Paris In A Night. On his way into the cage it seems that Also Zarathustra has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Also Zarathustra seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Also Zarathustra! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
20 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Paavo Smith! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Elvis Blanc and Gregory Folan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Zarathustra misses with a looping right. Smith throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Smith closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Zarathustra tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Smith wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Zarathustra wants to control but Smith postures up. Zarathustra is looking to regain half guard here but Smith keeps moving and retains side control. The ground and pound from Smith seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Smith wants to lay and pray for a moment but Zarathustra keeps working. Smith in side control lands a decent elbow. Zarathustra is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Smith off and has taken his back! I really don't envy Smith right now.
Zarathustra is not going to allow Smith to sit and survive in this position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Zarathustra lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Smith hold on?!
Will Zarathustra go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Zarathustra is hanging on to Smith's back as he tries to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Zarathustra is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Smith defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. Smith has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Smith preventing the rear naked choke attempt from Zarathustra. Zarathustra has Smith flattened out and is raining down punches.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith avoids the strikes from Zarathustra. This has been an exciting period of action! Smith trying to control the hands but Zarathustra won't let him. You can see the frustration on Smith's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Zarathustra is trying to stick to Smith's back but Smith is turning into Zarathustra. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Zarathustra's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Smith. Zarathustra is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Smith defends well. Smith passes Zarathustra's left leg - he's now in half guard. Smith trying to control the pace.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smith thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Zarathustra's head. Zarathustra is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Smith scores with a couple of nice shots. Smith not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Smith is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Zarathustra sees it coming and defends easily. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Zarathustra on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Smith scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Smith is stalling here. Zarathustra is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Smith seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Zarathustra has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. Smith is looking to reverse the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Smith tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Zarathustra presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Smith wants to hold on but Zarathustra pushes him away. Zarathustra pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Zarathustra in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Zarathustra prevents Smith from getting the reversal. Smith is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Zarathustra controlling the position easily from mount. Smith sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Zarathustra connects with a nice short shot to Smith's temple. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Also Zarathustra will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Zarathustra looks to land a right hand but Smith moved out of range. Zarathustra tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Smith was well out of range. Poor timing from Zarathustra. Zarathustra closes the distance and clinches. Zarathustra blocks an uppercut.
Zarathustra tries to work over Smith's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Zarathustra's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Zarathustra moves out of range of the strikes. Smith slips a straight right by Zarathustra. Zarathustra moves out of range of the strikes. Zarathustra throws a shot from downtown. Smith moves away and avoids it. Zarathustra rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Smith counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Zarathustra walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Smith checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. Smith shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Zarathustra as he jumps to the side. Zarathustra misses with a head kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smith misses with a looping left. A jab from Zarathustra does it's job there. Zarathustra ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Smith moves away. Also Zarathustra seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Zarathustra misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Smith.

Zarathustra looks to score with a jab to the body but Smith is just out of range. Zarathustra uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Smith. Zarathustra misses with a body shot.
Smith swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Zarathustra lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Smith uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Zarathustra. Zarathustra takes a swing at Smith's ribcage but misses. Smith has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Zarathustra finds it's way round the side to connect with Smith's head.
It looks like Paavo Smith has been cut.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith misses with a body shot.
Zarathustra ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Smith moves away. Smith fails miserably with a takedown attempt. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Zarathustra throws a hook but Smith avoids it easily. Zarathustra uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Smith has time to react.
Smith is rocked! Zarathustra connects with a crisp jab. Smith is still on wobbly legs! Can Zarathustra finish him? Zarathustra scores with a leg kick.
Smith misses with a right hand and Zarathustra counters with a huge right that knocks Smith out cold! Zarathustra is running around with a crazed look on his face - you can see how much that meant to him!
