Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ryan Ross! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Billie Botha! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ross shoots and misses and Botha counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Ross slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Ross is controlling Botha's posture. Ross is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Botha is controlling him. Ross controlling the position. Ross is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Botha is controlling him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ross wriggles free and stands up. Ross doesn't succeed with the takedown and Botha counters with a shoot takedown. Ross fights it but they end up in guard. Ross working a defensive guard here.

That's two minutes gone in the round. This has been an exciting period of action! Ross changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Botha looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Botha really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ross. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Botha is trying to control Ross's posture but Ross avoids it. Botha defending against the ground and pound. Botha can't do much from the bottom here. Botha is trying to get back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Botha taking a bit of punishment here - Ross scoring with strikes. Botha is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Ross asserts his dominance and retains side control. The strikes coming from Ross are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Botha wants to get back to his feet. It looks like Billie Botha has been cut. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Ross throwing strikes but missing, from side control. The ground and pound from Ross seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ross tries to score with some ground and pound. Botha controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Botha is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Ross asserts his dominance and retains side control. Botha parries the strikes from Ross easily there. Ross is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Botha to escape.
Botha dodges the ground and pound from Ross. Ross throws an elbow but Botha slips to the side and avoids it well. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Botha avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Ross. Ross throwing shots but missing, from side control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Botha shoots for a takedown but Ross saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. No luck for Ross with that takedown attempt. Ross fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Ross shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Botha is trying to defend but Ross finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Botha regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Ross. Ross trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Botha wants to stand and escape but Ross is having none of it. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ross accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Ross with a flurry of punches that miss. Ross looking to pass the guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ross works over Botha with some ground and pound from guard. Botha has momentary wrist control but Ross slips an elbow through the middle. Ross trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Ross loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ross trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Ross trying to control the position from guard on top but Botha is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Ross throws an elbow that misses. Botha uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Ross's guard. Nice move by Botha! Botha must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Botha trying to control but Ross is working from the bottom. Ross has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Botha is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Botha preventing the sweep.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ross is trying to control the position but Botha postures up. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Ross wants to sweep here but Botha controlling him for the moment.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Ross shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Botha but Botha pushes him off and we're back to square one. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryan Ross. That's going to take a lot out of him. Ross will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Ross shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Botha pinned against the cage. Botha gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Ross is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Botha's half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Botha blocking the ground and pound attempt from Ross. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Botha can do anything to dispel that myth. Botha trying to control from the bottom.
Ross throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Ross wants to control but Botha is keeping him busy. Ross not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Ross throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Ryan Ross overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Ross thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Botha's head. Ross is just content to waste time from the top position. Botha takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ryan Ross dominated that second round. The cut man is working on Billie Botha's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Ross wants to control but Botha is keeping him busy. Ross in side control, throwing shots but Botha defends. Ross works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Ross is looking to take a break and control but Botha is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Ross working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
That has opened up Billie Botha's cut even more.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Botha stops Ross from passing to mount. Ross misses with the ground and pound. Ross connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Botha some visible discomfort.

Billie Botha's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Billie Botha's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
