Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between David Cross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Connor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cross's entrance music is The American Dream Song. A fine choice. Connor has chosen Ça vaut mieux que d'attraper la scarlatine by Ray Venture as his entrance music. John Connor has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with David Cross's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Cross!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Connor!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Steve Smith and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cross lands with an overhand left.
Cross throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Cross thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Connor if he has to take too many more of those.
Cross misses with a wild body shot.
Connor throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Cross.
Cross stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Connor avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Connor moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Cross fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Connor has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
A telegraphed right hand from Connor misses the target.
Connor looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Connor takes a swing at Cross's ribcage but misses.
Connor misses with a series of wild punches.
Cross throws a leg kick which misses Connor's front leg but catches the back leg as Connor tries to avoid it.
Cross slips a jab and a cross from Connor.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cross dodges the punch combination from Connor.
Connor tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Cross was well out of range. Poor timing from Connor.
Connor throws a looping overhand right but Cross ducks down to avoid it.
Cross looks to score with a jab to the body but Connor is just out of range.
Cross will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Connor scores with a nice right hand.
Cross slips a straight right by Connor.
A big left from Connor misses.
Connor lands a nice shot to the body.
Connor swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Connor misses with a lunging right hand
and Cross counters with a nice uppercut.
Connor lands a nice looking body shot.

Cross shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Cross was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
The referee warns Connor that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cross looking to control but Connor is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Connor working to try and regain half guard.
Cross looking to finish Connor with some ground and pound. This is bad for Connor!
Cross sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Connor is bucking up trying to escape but Cross cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Connor tries to lock up and control but Cross gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Cross landing strikes, looking to finish!
Connor tries to hold on but Cross postures up.
Cross throwing strikes here but Connor is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Connor keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cross raining down shots from the mount!
Cross lands a nice shot to the head.
Connor is bucking up trying to escape but Cross cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Cross breaks from Connor's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Connor is in all sorts of trouble here.
Cross has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cross lands with some strikes.
Cross working the ground and pound effectively.
Cross connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Cross lands a big shot there that rocks Connor but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.


Connor is rocked!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
The referee warns Connor that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Connor is still in real trouble! Can Cross finish him?
Cross drops a big elbow. That's hurt Connor! More shots from Cross and the ref steps in! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). David Cross!
David Cross retains his lightweight title!
David Cross really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that West Coast Apparel logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
