Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joao Silva! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Charles Matos! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Matheus Silva and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Matos swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Silva. Silva takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Silva shoots in but Matos avoids the takedown attempt easily. Silva shoots in for a takedown but Matos shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Matos jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Silva fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Matos avoids it really well and circles away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joao Silva. That's going to take a lot out of him. Matos stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Silva shoots in looking for a takedown. Matos tries to sprawl out of it but Silva keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Matos manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Matos moves into range and clinches up with Silva. Matos breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Charles Matos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Silva misses with a takedown and Matos counters with a nice uppercut.
That's one minute gone in the round. Matos swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Silva. Matos connects with a single shot there. Matos scores with a sloppy right hand. Silva should have avoided that one. Silva tries to close the distance and clinch but Matos swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Silva wants to clinch up but Matos keeps it at a distance. It's a brutal combination of punches from Matos! Silva is backing up but he can't get away as Matos lands with one final shot to the jaw that drops Silva and ends the fight. Great knockout.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:25 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Charles Matos! In his post fight interview, Charles Matos started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
