Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bob Ferdinand (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Felipe Pontes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Felipe Pontes will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bob Ferdinand!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Felipe Pontes!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Daniel Cesar and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pontes tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ferdinand swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Felipe Pontes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pontes tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Pontes has closed the distance and engaged Ferdinand in a clinch.
Ferdinand is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Pontes gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Ferdinand jumps guard but Pontes stands there with Ferdinand around his waist. Ferdinand gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Pontes tries for a takedown but Ferdinand manages to get underhooks.

Pontes drags the fight down to the ground.
Ferdinand passes Pontes's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Ferdinand passes the guard and advances to mount!

You get the feeling that Pontes really doesn't like being in this position too much.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ferdinand is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Pontes is surviving well by controlling Ferdinand's body position as best he can.
Ferdinand has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Pontes is in all sorts of trouble here.

Pontes is squirming around, avoiding Ferdinand's attempts to control the action.
Pontes is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

Ferdinand looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Pontes is looking to improve his position but Ferdinand isn't that keen on the idea.

Pontes bucks up and throws Ferdinand to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!

Pontes tries to pull guard but Ferdinand holds him up against the cage and eventually Pontes drops back down to his feet.

Pontes jumps guard and drags Ferdinand to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Pontes is trying to keep Ferdinand in close.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Felipe Pontes.

Ferdinand ducks under a wild hook from Pontes.
Pontes tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Ferdinand manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Pontes tries to close the distance and clinch but Ferdinand swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Pontes cracks Ferdinand with a good jab.

and Ferdinand counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Pontes!
Pontes wants to hold on but Ferdinand pushes him away.

Ferdinand swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Pontes is now in Ferdinand's guard. A big mistake from Ferdinand there, giving up the dominant position!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Pontes has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ferdinand is proving hard to escape from.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round but I would say that Bob Ferdinand will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

It looks like Bob Ferdinand has been cut.
Ferdinand shoots for a double leg takedown but Pontes sprawls well. He's pushed Ferdinand's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Ferdinand moves out of range of the strikes.

Ferdinand shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Pontes but Pontes pushes him off and we're back to square one.

and Ferdinand counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Pontes is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Pontes has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ferdinand is working away from the top position though.
Ferdinand prevents Pontes from improving his position.

Pontes pushes Ferdinand off and gets back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Pontes closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Pontes scores with a nice hook to the head.
Ferdinand wants to take the fight to the mat but Pontes manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bob Ferdinand. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Pontes fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Ferdinand working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pontes doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pontes manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Pontes gets to his feet - Ferdinand follows without any prompting.

Ferdinand creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Ferdinand with the ground and pound but Pontes regains half guard under the barage of strikes.

Ferdinand seems to be working for a kimura but Pontes defends the submission attempt.
Pontes is trying to stand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ferdinand in particular looking to stall.
Ferdinand is thwarting Pontes's attempts to control the position.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

OK we're going to have a standup here. Felipe Pontes hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Ferdinand uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Pontes.
Pontes throws a hook but Ferdinand blocks it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pontes wants to clinch but Ferdinand slips to the side

so Ferdinand counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Ferdinand is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Pontes is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Pontes has escaped and now he's on top!
Pontes wants to get up but he can't break Ferdinand's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Bob Ferdinand will probably get the nod.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ferdinand is looking to stall here but Pontes recovers full guard.

Let's hope that Pontes has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Ferdinand looking for a submission but Pontes manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.
Ferdinand won't allow Pontes to get back to his feet.
Pontes is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Pontes controls Ferdinand momentarily but Ferdinand frees himself.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Ferdinand, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
