Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Duane McBride! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steve Staunton! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice sprawl there from Staunton as McBride shoots in. Staunton lands a high kick!
McBride gets a takedown into half guard. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. McBride drops an elbow to the side of Staunton's head. McBride knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Staunton on the ground. Staunton controlling the position well. Staunton is trying to get back to full guard. McBride missing with the ground and pound from half guard. McBride missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. McBride thows a huge punch but Staunton dodges it nicely.
This has been an exciting period of action! Staunton keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Staunton is looking to escape. Staunton tries to get to full guard but McBride has control of the leg. Staunton blocking the ground and pound attempt from McBride.
That's one minute gone in the round. McBride wants to pass the guard but Staunton is defending well. McBride throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. McBride stops Staunton from getting back to his feet.
McBride takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. McBride sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Staunton defending well though. McBride blocks the strikes from Staunton.

Staunton is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Staunton blocking the ground and pound attempt from McBride. McBride thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Staunton gets full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Staunton trying to control the position.
McBride throws a big elbow that misses. Staunton is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Staunton looks gassed! Staunton utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. McBride stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Staunton swivels though and keeps the full guard. McBride got a little sloppy there for a moment and Staunton has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, McBride has managed to get both his arms back between Staunton's legs - danger averted. McBride with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. McBride lands a couple of decent looking shots. McBride throwing strikes from guard but Staunton blocks nicely. McBride working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Staunton's head. Staunton should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McBride tries to free his leg and advance position but Staunton is retaining full guard. McBride throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Staunton works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Staunton keeping full guard, as McBride tries to pass. McBride lands a couple of elbows. McBride throws a strike but Staunton rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. McBride keeping moving, preventing Staunton from controlling successfully. Staunton is stalling in the full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. It looks like Staunton might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Steve Staunton was stalling too much, according to the referee. Staunton tries to close the distance and clinch up but McBride swats him away and circles back towards the center. McBride tries to clinch up. Staunton has closed the distance and engaged McBride in a clinch.
Staunton breaks the clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. McBride gets caught flat footed, as Staunton shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! McBride seems keen to control Staunton's posture. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Staunton pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. McBride is keeping the position for now. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Duane McBride will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
McBride tries to clinch up but Staunton circles away and keeps his distance. McBride with a lazy takedown attempt and Staunton counters by moving into the clinch. McBride can't break the clinch.
Staunton breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Staunton looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. McBride throws a jab when Staunton was well out of range. McBride lands a head shot. Duane McBride seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Staunton changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. McBride tries to avoid it but Staunton manages to keep hold of a leg and drag McBride to the ground. McBride escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Staunton moves forwards but McBride connects with a nice, crisp jab. McBride is looking to clinch. Staunton shoots in but no luck this time. Duane McBride has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Staunton. McBride misses with an uppercut
and Staunton counters with a nice body shot. Staunton is breathing heavily. McBride misses with a looping right. McBride catches Staunton napping and connects with a big right hand that sends Staunton to the canvas!
Staunton is rocked! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! McBride makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Staunton is still in real trouble! Can McBride finish him? McBride postures up and lands a big shot to Staunton's brow.
That's one minute gone in the round. McBride loads up on a big left hand. Staunton felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - McBride looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Staunton can't hide his disappointment, as McBride celebrates the victory.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Duane McBride! A relieved looking Duane McBride thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
