PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Oxen Munter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Soon ToB (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Oxen Munter! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Soon ToB! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! ToB's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Munter connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! ToB scrambles back to his feet.
It looks like Soon ToB has been cut. No luck for ToB with that takedown attempt. ToB shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Munter but Munter pushes him off and we're back to square one. Munter smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
That's one minute gone in the round. Munter slips under a jab. Munter on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. No joy there for Munter, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Munter lands a really nice looking cross but ToB seems unphased.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Munter throws the left hand but ToB avoids the punch easily. ToB keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Munter. ToB with a lazy takedown attempt and Munter counters with a crisp one two that drops ToB! Munter thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves ToB to his feet! ToB is in big trouble! Oxen Munter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Soon ToB. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Munter misses with a jab, cross combination.
ToB scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
That's three minutes gone in the round. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. An elbow from ToB crashes against the mat.
ToB looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Munter is avoiding damage well.
Munter wants to control but ToB postures up. The strikes coming from ToB are missing the target in this wave of attacks. ToB misses with the ground and pound. Munter knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for ToB on the ground. ToB cracks Munter with a big right hand but Munter just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Munter takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. ToB trying to control the position but Munter is working away. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Munter is working to avoid the ground and pound but ToB connects with a decent elbow.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Munter is looking to regain half guard here but ToB keeps moving and retains side control. An elbow from ToB crashes against the mat.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Sloppy strikes there by ToB. ToB connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Munter some visible discomfort.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Oxen Munter dominated that round. The cut man is working on Soon ToB's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
No luck with that takedown attempt from ToB. ToB walks into a left hand. Munter fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
ToB slips a jab from Munter. Oxen Munter is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
That's one minute gone in the round. Munter misses with an uppercut. ToB saw that one coming. Munter throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
ToB connects with a high kick. ToB closes this distance looking for a takedown but Munter circles away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Munter misses with an uppercut. Munter stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Munter wants it to stay on the feet. Oxen Munter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Soon ToB. ToB misses with a takedown and Munter counters with a lovely straight right hand!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Munter stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Munter lands the left hand. Munter is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Munter throws out a loose jab but ToB uses good head movement to avoid it. Munter throws a combination but it was largely blocked by ToB.
That's four minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! No luck with that takedown attempt from ToB. Munter shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. ToB is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Oxen Munter dominated that second round. The cut man is working on Soon ToB's cut. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
Munter throws an uppercut from half a mile away. ToB sees it coming and avoids it easily. ToB fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A telegraphed right hand from Munter misses the target.
That's one minute gone in the round. ToB closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Munter did well to prevent ToB getting side control. ToB passes into side control, despite Munter's attempt to control the position.
ToB scoring with punches and elbows. ToB works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. ToB wants to control but Munter is keeping him busy. An elbow from ToB crashes against the mat.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! ToB working the head with strikes. ToB in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. ToB wants to control but Munter is keeping him busy. ToB misses with the ground and pound. ToB throws an elbow but Munter slips to the side and avoids it well. ToB in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Munter managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by ToB.
ToB wants to lay and pray for a moment but Munter keeps working. ToB lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. ToB looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Munter is avoiding damage well.
ToB cracks Munter with a big elbow. ToB is chipping away with strikes.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! ToB in side control, throwing shots but Munter defends. Munter on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Munter tries to get out of the position. ToB creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Munter sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Munter being controlled for a moment. ToB postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
ToB has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. ToB tries to score with some ground and pound. Munter controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. ToB tries to advance to mount but can't. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. ToB working the head with strikes.
And that's the end of the fight! Soon ToB comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Munter has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
