Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Shalako Carlin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Shalako Carlin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alexander Rua!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Carlin forces Rua back against the cage and clinches.
Carlin working Rua over with knees to the body.
Rua looks gassed!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Carlin scores a nice knee to the body.
Carlin crunches a lovely knee into Rua's ribcage.
A knee to the head by Carlin.


It looks like Alexander Rua has been cut.

Carlin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Carlin. Rua shrugs it off though.

Carlin takes the fight into the clinch.
Carlin creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Rua's defenses.
A knee to the head by Carlin.

Carlin breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Carlin moves into the clinch.
Carlin lands a knee to the body.
Rua goes for a takedown in the clinch but Carlin prevents it.
Carlin crunches a lovely knee into Rua's ribcage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carlin comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Carlin with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.


Rua is rocked!

Carlin drags the fight down to the ground.
Rua is still in real trouble! Can Carlin finish him?
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Carlin wants to sweep but no luck.
Rua being controlled here momentarily.
Rua seems to have recovered his senses.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Shalako Carlin just wasn't active enough.

Rua tries to keep at a distance but Carlin has taken the fight into the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rua can't get the takedown.
Carlin with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Carlin lands a good knee to the midsection. Rua won't want to take too many of those.
Rua takes a knee right on the jaw!


That has opened up Alexander Rua's cut even more.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Carlin connects with a nasty looking knee right to Rua's face.

Carlin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Carlin drives through and clinches with Rua against the cage.
Carlin is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Carlin connects with a knee to the head.

Carlin decides to pull guard.
Rua trying to control the position from guard on top but Carlin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rua looking to pass the guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carlin is adopting a defensive guard.
Carlin's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Shalako Carlin just wasn't active enough.

Carlin forces Rua back against the cage and clinches.
Rua tries for a takedown. No joy.
Shalako Carlin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alexander Rua.
Rua is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Carlin pulls him back up using the underhooks.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Carlin lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Rua takes a knee right on the jaw!
Rua gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Carlin.
Rua drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Carlin gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Carlin unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Carlin connects with a knee to the head.
Carlin tries to land a knee to the head but Rua blocks with his arms.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Carlin has Rua pressed up against the cage in a tight Thai clinch. Rua is arching his back, trying to avoid the knees but a big one sneaks through from Carlin - that's hurt Rua badly! Oh, another knee lands and Rua is covering up! The referee steps in to save him - possibly a bit early but Rua doesn't seem to be complaining.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Knees). Shalako Carlin!
During a confident post fight interview, Shalako Carlin thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
