Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Landon Collins! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Liam Thomas! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thomas tries to land a leg kick but Collins saw it coming and moves away.
Collins misses with a jab, cross combination.
Thomas dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Collins. That did some damage! Thomas throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Thomas throws out a leg kick but Collins moves out of range and Thomas only half commits. Collins drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Collins really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Thomas closes the distance and clinches. Thomas tries to work over Collins's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Thomas has Collins pushed against the cage. Thomas is leaning against Collins and scores with a nice uppercut to the body. Thomas goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Thomas can't find room to land a body shot as Collins controls the action.
Collins tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Thomas just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Thomas misses with a punch to the body.
Nice body punch from Thomas - that landed with a thud.
Thomas is working Collins over against the cage. Collins jumps guard but Thomas turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Collins on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Thomas unloads a knee to the mid-section. Thomas misses with a body punch.
Thomas is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Collins wants to take the fight to the mat but Thomas manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Landon Collins. That's going to take a lot out of him. Collins has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Thomas uses from the top position. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Thomas lying in Collins's guard like a wet fish here, stalling away. Collins decides he's had enough of all that nonsense - he escapes his hips and locks up an armbar! Wow, that was slick! Thomas taps! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Landon Collins! Landon Collins got down on his knees post fight and begged the management for a title shot. 'Please, I want that title shot so bad! Give it to me!'
