Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Johnny Mayzing! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Dave Benevides! The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, William Gold and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mayzing slaps away a takedown attempt from Benevides, before circling back to the center of the mat. Benevides closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mayzing circles away. Benevides shoots in but no luck this time. Johnny Mayzing has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dave Benevides. Donk. Mayzing catches Benevides right on the button with a cross. Mayzing fails to land with a series of punches.
Mayzing leaves Benevides with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Mayzing stuffs the takedown. Mayzing closes the distance and lands a one-two. Benevides tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Mayzing throws a one two combo.
Mayzing scores a takedown into full mount! We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Benevides is looking to get to half guard. Benevides is squirming around, avoiding Mayzing's attempts to control the action. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
That's one minute gone in the round. Mayzing tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Mayzing tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment. Mayzing trying to control but he's not successful this time. Mayzing is standing up, even though he is in mount. Sloppy strikes from Mayzing. Those never looked like landing. Mayzing throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Benevides shoots in and drives through. Mayzing sprawls well. Mayzing throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Benevides. Benevides tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mayzing swivels and escapes. Benevides decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Mayzing trying to hold on to Benevides's head to control him but Benevides postures up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Benevides is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Mayzing sees it coming and defends easily. Benevides looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Benevides is looking for a kimura here.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Benevides in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Mayzing tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Benevides!
