PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Steven Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hans Lankari (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lankari has chosen AC/DC - Thunderstruck as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Steven Stone! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Hans Lankari! The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lankari fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Stone to the ground. Lankari is now in Stone's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Lankari won't allow Stone to get back to his feet. Lankari is fighting to break Stone's control of his arms but Stone is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Stone looking to control.
Stone has his hands on Lankari's head, controlling the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Steven Stone. Lankari is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Lankari fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Hans Lankari seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Lankari is looking to clinch. Stone shoots in and bounces Lankari off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Stone throwing strikes but missing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lankari not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Stone throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Lankari works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Lankari trying to keep a closed guard but Stone is proving a slippery customer.
Lankari wants to stand up but Stone is controlling him. Lankari manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Stone manages to get himself to full guard.
Lankari postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Stone tries to land a sweep but no joy. Stone keeping moving, preventing Lankari from controlling successfully. Lankari looking to pass the guard. Stone on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Stone tries to get out of the position. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Stone has Lankari pulled in close to control his posture.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Steven Stone just wasn't active enough. Stone gets a takedown into half guard. Stone not landing any meaningful shots this time. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Lankari is concentrating on defense, preventing Stone from advancing position. Lankari looks like he's trying to stand up.
Stone missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Lankari moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Lankari is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Stone is aware though and is defending well. Stone is in close to Lankari's body, working some short punches and elbows.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Stone throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Lankari works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Stone throwing strikes from guard but Lankari blocks nicely. Stone postures up.
Stone knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lankari on the ground. Lankari has his foot on Stone's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Stone works his way back into a safe position though. Lankari throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Stone landing with the ground and pound. Stone chips away with some ground and pound. Stone connects with a couple of short punches. Stone in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Stone throwing strikes from guard but Lankari blocks nicely. Stone is working Lankari over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Stone throws a big right hand that misses.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Stone cracks Lankari with a solid left hand. Stone postures up.
Stone lands a couple of decent looking shots. Lankari pulls Stone in to control the position. Stone trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Lankari is trying to keep Stone in close.
Stone has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Lankari to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Stone is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Lankari pulls down on the head and he's put Stone to sleep! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Hans Lankari! A relieved looking Hans Lankari thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
