PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Derrick Sommers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Syd Knee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sommers comes to the cage accompanied by 1967. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Derrick Sommers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Syd Knee!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Winston Howard and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sommers gets the takedown into side control.

Sommers looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Knee wants to get back to his feet but Sommers drags him back down.
You can see the frustration on Knee's face as Sommers controls the position.
Knee wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Sommers controlling from side mount.
Sommers seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Knee for as long as he can get away with.

Sommers decides to stand back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Knee is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Sommers changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Knee looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Sommers stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Knee connects with a jab.
Sommers tries to clinch but Knee moves out of range.
Sommers misses with a head kick.
Knee wants to clinch up but Sommers keeps it at a distance.

Sommers moves into the clinch successfully.
Knee gets underhooks to prevent Sommers's takedown attempt.
Knee with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Knee is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Knee looks gassed!
Sommers changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Knee fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Sommers gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Knee tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Knee connects with a nasty looking knee right to Sommers's face.
Knee wants to break the clinch but can't.

Sommers has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Knee regains guard immediately.
Knee can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sommers controls the pace.
Sommers postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Sommers is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sommers passes Knee's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Sommers is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sommers in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Knee tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Sommers!
