Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rick Rich! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Johan Moneymaker! The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Moneymaker fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A punch combination from Moneymaker misses. Rich fails with a takedown attempt. Moneymaker tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Rich was well out of range. Poor timing from Moneymaker. Moneymaker closes the distance and lands a one-two. Moneymaker misses with a double jab.
Moneymaker will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Moneymaker keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Moneymaker throws a head kick that misses. Moneymaker defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Rich. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rick Rich. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Some wild striking there from Moneymaker.
Moneymaker defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Rich. Rich shoots in looking for a takedown but Moneymaker manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rich's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Rich looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Moneymaker misses with a jab, cross combination.
Rich shoots for a takedown but Moneymaker saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Moneymaker throws a combination that misses and Rich moves into the clinch. Moneymaker tries to break free but Rich pushes him back against the cage. Moneymaker breaks the clinch.
Moneymaker throws a body punch but Rich moves out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Moneymaker throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Moneymaker pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Rich back to the cage. Moneymaker follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. Rich shoots for a double leg takedown but Moneymaker sprawls well. He's pushed Rich's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Danga de danga de dang - Moneymaker scores with a four punch combination! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Rich gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Moneymaker counters with a straight right hand. Nice sprawl there from Moneymaker as Rich shoots in. Rich shoots in looking for a takedown. Moneymaker tries to sprawl out of it but Rich keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Moneymaker manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Rich looks for a takedown but Moneymaker sprawls well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Moneymaker bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Rich leaves Moneymaker with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Moneymaker shoots in and bounces Rich off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rich throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Moneymaker scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Moneymaker is looking to work some ground and pound but Rich has wrist control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rich managing to control the position. Moneymaker trying to stand up but can't free himself from Rich's guard. Moneymaker trying to control but Rich is working from the bottom. Rich is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Moneymaker rolls with it to try and escape but Rich cranks on the arm and Moneymaker is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
