The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Spring looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Black is fending him off so far but Spring persists. Nope, Black circles away and we're back to standing. Spring shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Spring working Black over with strikes. Black tries to kick Spring off but Spring keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Spring sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Black defending well though. Black really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Spring. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Spring is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Black defends it well. Spring is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Black has managed to free his arm - good work. Black is looking to control Spring's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Black avoid being mounted? Spring is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Spring really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Black wants to get back to his feet.

Spring will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Spring working over Black with some ground and pound. Black looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Spring looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. That's two minutes gone in the round. Spring looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Black with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Spring throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Spring looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Spring is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Smash Spring dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Black throws a right and a left that Spring avoids nicely. Smash Spring is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Spring misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Black tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Spring shoots in for a takedown but Black shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Black tries to bum rush Spring with a series of wild strikes but Spring uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Black cracks Spring with an open hand slap. Black tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Spring paws at him with a jab and circles away. Black fails with an attempt to clinch.
Black will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Black bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Spring's head. Spring looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Black lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Spring takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Decent striking displayed by Black there. Black connects with the punch. Black misses with the combination.

He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Smash Spring overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Spring working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Black is looking to stand up but Spring isn't so interested in that idea. Spring postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Spring throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Black works some decent striking defense from the bottom. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Black is looking to stand up but Spring isn't so interested in that idea. Black is breathing heavily. Spring drops back looking for a leg! Black is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Black manages to kick Spring off! Spring jumps back into Black's guard. Black looking to hit a scissor sweep but Spring is one step ahead there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Spring lands a couple of digs. Black is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Spring is controlling him. Spring throwing strikes but missing. Spring trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Spring throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Black is rocked! Spring is in close to Black's body, working some short punches and elbows. Black is still in real trouble! Can Spring finish him? Spring thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Black avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Spring accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Black seems to have recovered his senses. Spring working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Black's head. Spring in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Black working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Spring. Spring prevents Black from getting back to his feet. Black uses the cage to get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Spring lands a big head kick that sends Black tumbling to the mat! Spring takes a step backwards and waves Black back to his feet - he wants the finish!
It looks like Lou Black has been cut. Spring fails with a takedown attempt. Black connects with the punch. Black pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Spring back to the cage. Black follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. Spring fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Black avoids it really well and circles away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Smash Spring. That's going to take a lot out of him. Black comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Spring takes one on the button. Black closes the distance and lands a one-two. Black clinches up with Spring and pushes him back against the cage. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Black pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Black cracks Spring with an open hand slap.
Spring is rocked! Black feints a kick and comes over the top with a right hand, followed by a left hook - both land, sending Spring crashing to the mat! This one is all over!
