Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jon Drexler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derrick Rodriguez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rodriguez has chosen Grits - My Life Be Like Ooh Ahh as his entrance music. This should be a great matchup!

2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jon Drexler! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Derrick Rodriguez! The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rodriguez slips under a jab from Drexler. Drexler pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Drexler pushes Rodriguez up against the cage in a clinch. Drexler has Rodriguez pressed against the cage.
Drexler pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Drexler looking to score a takedown here. Rodriguez is defending well but Drexler drives through and ends up in Rodriguez's guard. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Rodriguez wants to stand up but Drexler is controlling him. Rodriguez wants to sweep here but Drexler controlling him for the moment. Drexler working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Rodriguez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Drexler looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Rodriguez trying to keep a closed guard but Drexler is proving a slippery customer.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Derrick Rodriguez was stalling too much, according to the referee. Rodriguez gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Drexler counters with a good, hard body kick but Rodriguez shrugs it off. Drexler closes the distance and clinches. Rodriguez tries to pull guard but Drexler holds him up against the cage and eventually Rodriguez drops back down to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Drexler taking a breather. Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Drexler obliges. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Drexler lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Rodriguez backwards. Rodriguez letting Drexler take a breather here. Drexler using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Drexler manages to break the clinch.
Drexler rushes Rodriguez and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Rodriguez tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Drexler smiles and moves away.
Jon Drexler has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Derrick Rodriguez. Drexler clinches with his opponent.
Drexler wants the takedown. Rodriguez is fighting it off but Drexler persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Rodriguez's guard against the cage. Rodriguez avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Drexler tries to free his leg and advance position but Rodriguez is retaining full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rodriguez wants to get back to his feet but Drexler is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Drexler is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Drexler throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Drexler stays in close to Rodriguez's body and controls the position. Rodriguez is looking to stand up but Drexler isn't so interested in that idea. Drexler controls from within his opponent's guard.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Jon Drexler wasn't doing enough on the ground. Excellent takedown into side control there by Drexler. Drexler tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Rodriguez sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Drexler not landing any meaningful shots this time. Drexler controlling the action here. Rodriguez blocking the ground and pound attempt from Drexler. Drexler throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Rodriguez taking some punishment here, with Drexler in his half guard. Rodriguez is trying to get back to full guard. Rodriguez trying to control but Drexler postures up.

Drexler fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Rodriguez, pushing him back against the cage. Drexler leaning against his opponent.
Drexler breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Drexler has managed to clinch.

A quick uppercut on the inside from Drexler. Drexler pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Rodriguez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Drexler swivels and escapes. Rodriguez shoots and misses so Drexler counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Drexler landing some decent shots from guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Drexler trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Rodriguez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Drexler stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rodriguez swivels though and keeps the full guard. Drexler trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Drexler looking to pass the guard. Rodriguez not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Rodriguez is looking to stand up but Drexler isn't so interested in that idea. Rodriguez keeping moving, preventing Drexler from controlling successfully. Rodriguez is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Rodriguez keeping full guard, as Drexler tries to pass.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Derrick Rodriguez hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Drexler clinches. Drexler holding his opponent close, against the cage.

Rodriguez is breathing heavily. This has been an exciting period of action! Drexler breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Derrick Rodriguez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Drexler darts in and clinches Rodriguez up against the cage. Drexler lands with a left to the head. Drexler is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body. Drexler crunches a lovely knee into Rodriguez's ribcage. Drexler dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage. Drexler gets a warning from the ref for wasting time. Drexler pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Rodriguez fails with the takedown and Drexler counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Rodriguez thinking.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rodriguez misses with a takedown and Drexler decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rodriguez's guard. Drexler postures up in Rodriguez's guard and throws a big left but Rodriguez blocks it. Rodriguez is trying to keep Drexler in close.
Drexler working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Drexler with a flurry of punches that miss. Drexler slips nicely into half guard. Drexler is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Drexler looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Rodriguez with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Drexler content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Drexler is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rodriguez can do to turn this around? Drexler is trying to work for a kimura but Rodriguez is defending well.

Drexler prevents Rodriguez from getting back to his feet. Rodriguez avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Drexler is looking to work some ground and pound but Rodriguez has wrist control. Drexler engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Drexler content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Derrick Rodriguez has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Rodriguez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Drexler circles away. Rodriguez shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Drexler counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Drexler. Drexler has clasped his hands together around Rodriguez's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Rodriguez wants to get back to his feet but Drexler drags him back down. Rodriguez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Rodriguez is trying to get back to half guard. Drexler in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Drexler postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Drexler looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Drexler working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Drexler is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Rodriguez will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Drexler in side control lands a decent elbow. Rodriguez managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Drexler.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Rodriguez manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Rodriguez is trying to control. Drexler wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Drexler trying to control but Rodriguez postures up.
Drexler is not content to let Rodriguez control the position. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Drexler punching from the bottom.

Rodriguez doesn't succeed with the takedown and Drexler counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Jon Drexler has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Derrick Rodriguez. Drexler is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rodriguez defends it well. Drexler looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. BOOM! Drexler connects with a massive shot to the dome!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Drexler cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Jon Drexler is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Rodriguez is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Jon Drexler showed his dominance in that final round. Well Drexler has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
