PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brock Lenny (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryo Ishizaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ishizaki comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Hiroyuki Okita - Moete Hero kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Brock Lenny!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryo Ishizaki!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Taro Takaoka and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ishizaki shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Ishizaki stays in close to Lenny's body and controls the position.
Lenny wants to stand up but Ishizaki is controlling him.
Ishizaki wants to control from the top but Lenny keeps moving.

It looks like Ishizaki might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Ryo Ishizaki hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Lenny tries to close the distance and clinch but Ishizaki swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Ishizaki avoids a kick to the body.

and Ishizaki counters with a shoot takedown. Lenny fights it but they end up in guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Ishizaki prevents Lenny from getting back to his feet.
Ishizaki is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Let's hope that Ishizaki has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ryo Ishizaki wasn't active enough on the ground.
Lenny attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.

Ishizaki dives in and scores a takedown into Lenny's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lenny is looking to stand up but Ishizaki isn't so interested in that idea.
Ishizaki passes Lenny's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Lenny could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Ishizaki wants to pass the guard but Lenny is defending well.
Lenny is trying to stand up here but Ishizaki is controlling him well.

Ishizaki is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Ishizaki is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Ishizaki is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Lenny is just riding it out for now. Ishizaki eventually gives up the hold.
Ishizaki seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Ishizaki drops an elbow to the side of Lenny's head.
Lenny tries to kick Ishizaki off but Ishizaki keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Ishizaki is looking for a kimura here.
Ishizaki wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lenny keeps working.
Lenny might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Ishizaki turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Ishizaki manages to end up in side control.

Ishizaki tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ishizaki has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Ishizaki has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Lenny is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Ishizaki yanks on the arm and Lenny is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Ishizaki.
