Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Peter Jones! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Tyler Gallows! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Phil Schofield and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gallows closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Gallows looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Jones effectively controlling the action here. Jones gets a trip takedown into half guard. Gallows keeps control of the position for the meantime. Gallows won't allow Jones to pass to mount. Gallows trying to control here.
Jones is nestled in close to Gallows, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Jones lands a nice short elbow. Gallows is trying to control but can't.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Gallows wants to control but Jones is keeping busy.
Jones performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Jones tries to pass the half guard into mount. Gallows knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Jones is working hard here to advance position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gallows is looking to improve his position.
Gallows keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gallows trying to control but Jones postures up.
Gallows is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Gallows is not content to let Jones control the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Jones shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gallows but Gallows pushes him off and we're back to square one. Jones shoots in but no luck this time. Gallows throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Jones circles away from the clinch attempt.
Gallows fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Jones to the ground. Gallows is now in Jones's guard. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Gallows won't allow Jones to sweep him here. Gallows is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Jones tries to land a sweep but no joy. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Jones holds on and takes a little breather. Jones wants to sweep but no luck. Gallows really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Gallows postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Jones looking to control.
Gallows looking to sit in guard and control but Jones gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Jones trying to control but Gallows is working from the bottom. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gallows is on top in guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Jones looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gallows is one step ahead there. Gallows wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Jones's closed guard. He's half up but Jones has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Jones pivots and extends the arm, Gallows falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Jones! Well done that man!
