Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
19 - 12 - 0, fighting out of New York, Liam Machin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Cole! The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Alyssa Summers and Lou da Vinci.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cole looks for a takedown but Machin sprawls well. Machin fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Cole sprawls well initially but Machin persists and gets the takedown into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cole is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Machin pulls his head out easily. Cole trying to control but Machin postures up.
Machin is looking for a kimura but Cole is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Machin to get the leverage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cole tries to roll over but Machin keeps him under control. Cole is looking to control Machin's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Cole avoid being mounted? Cole is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Machin pulls his head out easily.

Machin trying to control from half guard but Cole is working away. Machin is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Cole working to try and regain half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Machin is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Cole is surviving well by controlling Machin's body position as best he can. Machin trying to control but he's not successful this time.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Machin is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Cole has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Cole! Cole has gone for a leg lock! Machin slips out almost immediately though and dives into Cole's guard. Cole is trying to control the position but Machin postures up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Machin trying to control but Cole is working from the bottom. Machin tries to free his leg and advance position but Cole is retaining full guard. Cole looking for a sweep. Not yet Cole, not yet.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Liam Machin just wasn't active enough. Machin ducks under a wild hook from Cole. Machin avoids the body shot from Cole.
Machin moves away from the strike by Cole. Cole looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Machin is fending him off so far but Cole persists. Nope, Machin circles away and we're back to standing. Cole throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Cole scores with a nice right hand.
Machin fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Cole to the ground. Machin is now in Cole's guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Machin pushing down on Cole's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Machin is keen to just control but Cole is a slippery customer. Machin is trying to work for a kimura but Cole is defending well.
Machin is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Machin trying to control the action but Cole is working from the bottom. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Machin seems to be looking for submissions.

Liam Machin dominated that round. That's time! Machin's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Machin leaves Cole with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Cole throws a body punch but Machin moves out of range. A momentary lapse in concentration from Cole enables Machin to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Cole manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Cole throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Machin escapes and throws Cole's legs to the side, diving into side control! Machin tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Machin has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Cole prevents Machin from moving into mount. Machin moves into full mount! Liam Machin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Machin takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cole is in all sorts of trouble here.
Cole is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Machin goes for an armbar but Cole turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Cole.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cole stopping the sweep attempt from Machin. Cole is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Machin is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Machin has escaped and now he's on top! Machin has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Machin trying to control but Cole is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Machin controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Liam Machin. Cole fails with a takedown attempt. Machin scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Machin looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Cole manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Machin is pressing down on Cole's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Machin keeping full guard, as Cole tries to pass. Cole trying to control but Machin is working from the bottom.

Machin keeping full guard, as Cole tries to pass. Cole drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Machin dives on top into guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Machin trying to control the position from guard on top but Cole is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cole is on top in guard.

Liam Machin dominated that second round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Cole looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Machin looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Cole tries to get to full guard but Machin has control of the leg. Machin is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Cole doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Machin. Machin is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Cole is just riding it out for now. Machin eventually gives up the hold.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Machin is looking to stall here but Cole recovers full guard. Machin trying to control the position from guard on top but Cole is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Machin has gone for a leg lock! Cole slips out almost immediately though and dives into Machin's guard. Cole stays in close to Machin's body and controls the position. Machin pulls Cole in to control the position.

Cole is looking to advance position but Machin won't allow it. Cole is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Machin sees it coming and defends easily. Machin trying to control from the bottom.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Liam Machin. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Machin, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
