Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ground Guru (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jokke Mela (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mela has chosen Da Rockwilder as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ground Guru!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jokke Mela!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Paul Gruel and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A big right from Mela misses.
Mela's corner calls for a 1-2. Mela obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Mela ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Guru moves away.
Mela takes a swing at Guru's ribcage but misses.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Guru.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Mela is trying to get back to half guard.

Guru swings around for an armbar but Mela sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Guru's guard.

Guru has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mela can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Guru isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Mela stacks Guru on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Mela!

Mela wants to control but Guru is keeping him busy.
Guru is trying to control Mela's posture but Mela avoids it.

Mela is taking a breather. Guru says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Mela manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Guru takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Guru fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Mela manages to avoid it.

Mela had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Guru defends it easily.

Guru works over Mela with some ground and pound from guard.
Guru stands and throws Mela's legs to the side, diving into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Guru tries to advance to mount but can't.
Guru passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Mela!
Guru avoids the attempt from Mela to control.

Guru looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Mela is trying desperately to improve position.

Mela is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Guru is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Mela can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Guru moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Mela has worked his arm free - good work by Mela!

Guru swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Mela is now in Guru's guard. A big mistake from Guru there, giving up the dominant position!

That was a close second round but I would say that Ground Guru will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Guru needs to keep his hands up - Mela had a free shot at his head there.
Horrible takedown by Guru or perhaps it was just good defense by Mela which made him look bad.
Mela is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Guru rather than just go for the knockout.
Guru avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Ground Guru is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Guru dives in and grabs Mela's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mela pushes down on Guru's head and hops out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ground Guru. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Mela counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Mela throws an overhand right that lands on Guru's shoulder, as Guru tries to avoid the shot.
Mela cracks Guru with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Guru feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Ground Guru overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Mela holds on and takes a little breather.

Guru closes the distance and clinches up with Mela, looking for a takedown. Guru pushes Mela against the cage but Mela circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Guru changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mela tries to avoid it but Guru manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mela to the ground. Mela escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.
Guru's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Mela connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Guru scrambles back to his feet.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jokke Mela hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Jokke Mela comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Mela has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
