Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, AJ Melo!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Chris Saunders and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yackey misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Yackey decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Melo is refusing to be controlled, as Yackey sits in half guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Jimmy Yackey has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Melo has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Yackey.
Melo wants to clinch up but Yackey keeps it at a distance.
Yackey throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

The fight stays on the outside here - Melo looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Nice takedown defense from Yackey. No joy for Melo on that attempt.

Melo throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Yackey.

Yackey not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Yackey drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Yackey jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Melo wants to stand and escape but Yackey is having none of it.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Yackey slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Yackey drops back looking for a leg! Melo is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Melo manages to kick Yackey off! Yackey jumps back into Melo's guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Melo moves in looking to clinch but Yackey pushes him off.
Melo avoids the head kick by Yackey.
Melo is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Yackey pulls out of a head kick attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Melo tries for a takedown but Yackey sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Melo moves into the clinch successfully.

Yackey misses with an elbow strike.
Melo is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Melo avoids the elbow strike from Yackey, against the ropes.
With the fighters up against the ropes, Yackey throws an elbow but misses.

Melo is looking to break free of the clinch but Yackey has double underhooks.
Yackey pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the ropes.
Melo scores with a hook to the body.
Yackey lands an elbow that stopped Melo in his tracks for a moment.

Yackey breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
A jab lands there for Melo.
Melo looks to clinch
and Yackey counters with a big head kick but Melo shrugs it off.

Yackey has a takedown stuffed.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Yackey shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Melo defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jimmy Yackey. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Melo closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Yackey quickly recovers to half guard.
Yackey is looking to control Melo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Yackey avoid being mounted?

Melo tries to free his leg and advance position but Yackey is retaining full guard.
Jimmy Yackey overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Melo wants to stand but Yackey has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Yackey on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Yackey tries to get out of the position.

Yackey is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Melo rolls with it to try and escape but Yackey cranks on the arm and Melo is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
