Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kurt Blanks! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ricky Steele! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Chris Downing and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Steele throws a head kick that misses. Steele stuffs the takedown. Blanks shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Steele but Steele pushes him off and we're back to square one. Steele throws a right and a left that Blanks avoids nicely. Blanks has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Steele finds it's way round the side to connect with Blanks's head. Blanks tries to clinch up but Steele circles away and keeps his distance. Blanks avoids a punch combination nicely.
Steele lands a nice hook to Blanks's body. Blanks takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Blanks slips a jab from Steele. Blanks shoots in for a double leg but Steele sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kurt Blanks. That's going to take a lot out of him. Steele swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Blanks avoids a punch combination nicely.
Steele lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Steele. Steele has managed to clinch.
Blanks decides to pull guard. Steele has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Blanks is proving hard to escape from. Steele is stalling in the full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Blanks tries to land a sweep but no joy. Blanks working for a triangle but Steele defends it easily.
Blanks has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Steele can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Blanks keeping moving, preventing Steele from controlling successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Blanks looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Steele passes into half guard.
Steele tries to pass to full mount but Blanks defends it. Steele wants to stand but Blanks has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. Steele content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Blanks missing with punches from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Blanks moves into full guard.
Blanks has a closed guard, preventing Steele from standing up. Steele stands up and waves to Blanks to follow him. Steele throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Blanks sees it coming and avoids it easily. Steele throws a head kick but Blanks moves out of range.
Steele throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Blanks. Steele looks gassed! Blanks shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Steele as he jumps to the side. No luck for Blanks with that takedown attempt. Blanks shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Blanks's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Blanks throwing strikes but missing. Blanks drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Blanks jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Blanks lands a couple of elbows. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Blanks advances to half guard. Blanks working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Steele has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Blanks is working away from the top position though. Blanks seems to be looking for submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ricky Steele dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Blanks will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Steele throws a head kick but Blanks moves out of range.
Blanks buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Steele misses with a body shot.
No luck for Blanks with that takedown attempt. Blanks closes the distance and clinches up with Steele, looking for a takedown. Blanks pushes Steele against the cage but Steele circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kurt Blanks. That's going to take a lot out of him. Blanks fails in his attempt to clinch. Blanks pushes Steele up against the cage in a clinch. Steele can't break the clinch.
Blanks pulls guard. Steele stands up from Blanks's guard - Steele perhaps looking for a knockout. Blanks shoots in but Steele avoids the takedown attempt easily. Nice sprawl there from Steele as Blanks shoots in.
That's one minute gone in the round. Steele tries to bum rush Blanks with a series of wild strikes but Blanks uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Horrible takedown by Blanks or perhaps it was just good defense by Steele which made him look bad. Blanks throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Steele's waist but Steele gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Blanks off to one side. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Blanks showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Steele.
Steele tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Kurt Blanks is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Steele clinches up against the cage. Blanks tries a knee to the head but Steele blocks it.
Steele is pressed up against the cage. Blanks has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Steele down to the mat. Steele avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Steele misses with a straight right. Steele throws a series of punches but Blanks avoids them all with ease. Steele takes a swing at Blanks's ribcage but misses. Steele looks to land a right hand but Blanks moved out of range. Blanks looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Blanks tries to free his leg and advance position but Steele is retaining full guard. Blanks advances to half guard. Blanks has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Steele defend it? Blanks steps over the head and cranks it - Steele is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Blanks!
