Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Garrett Hemingway! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joao Roberto! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Columbo Gatti and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Roberto tries to clinch up but Hemingway circles away and keeps his distance. Roberto tries for a takedown but Hemingway sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Roberto pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Hemingway drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Roberto lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Hemingway! Hemingway stops Roberto from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Hemingway tries to lock up and control but Roberto gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Roberto can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hemingway is looking to escape. Hemingway working to try and regain half guard.
Roberto jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Hemingway manages to avoid the submission attempt. Hemingway is trying to control Roberto's posture but Roberto avoids it. Hemingway is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Roberto has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hemingway moves into range and clinches up with Roberto. Hemingway lands a nice elbow. Roberto with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Hemingway prevents Roberto from getting back to his feet. Hemingway won't allow Roberto to sweep him here. Roberto pushes a forearm under Hemingway's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Hemingway is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
