Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Robert Barones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ben Hannant!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Winston Howard and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Barones tries to sprawl but Hannant drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Barones tries to get to full guard but Hannant has control of the leg.
Barones avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Hannant.
Barones moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Barones controls Hannant momentarily but Hannant frees himself.
Barones is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Hannant is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Barones pulls Hannant in close to prevent any damage.
Hannant looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Barones manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hannant manages to get himself to full guard.
Hannant is looking to stand up but Barones isn't so interested in that idea.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Barones got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hannant has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Barones has managed to get both his arms back between Hannant's legs - danger averted.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Barones makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Hannant striking off his back but it's not causing Barones any problems.
Barones is looking to work some ground and pound but Hannant has wrist control.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Barones accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Hannant wants to sweep but no luck.
Barones is working Hannant over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Barones postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Barones slips a nice elbow through Hannant's hands, connecting with Hannant's forehead.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Barones seems to be looking for submissions.
Barones looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hannant with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Barones takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Barones winds up and cracks Hannant with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Barones lands a nice short elbow.

Barones seems to be working for a kimura but Hannant defends the submission attempt.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Hannant is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Barones scores with a couple of nice shots.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Hannant takes the fight into the clinch.

Hannant is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Barones can't fight it off and eventually Hannant manages to take the fight to the floor. Barones looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Barones will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Barones is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Barones seems keen to control Hannant's posture.

Barones bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hannant's guard.

Barones throws a strike but Hannant rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Barones cracks Hannant with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Barones lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Barones really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Barones loads up with a big shot that hurts Hannant! He's pulled Barones in close but Barones has postured up and lands more strikes. Can Hannant survive? More strikes from Barones and Hannant is out! The ref jumps in to save him! Brutal ground and pound!
