Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Roper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paddy Cheechoo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Paddy Cheechoo is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Roper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paddy Cheechoo!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Hugh Johnson and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Cheechoo.
Cheechoo doesn't manage to clinch there - Roper circles away.

Roper shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Roper showed some decent athleticism there.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Roper is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Roper prevents Cheechoo from improving his position.
Roper looks to land a strike but Cheechoo avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Cheechoo wants to sweep here but Roper controlling him for the moment.

Cheechoo wants to stand and escape but Roper is having none of it.

Cheechoo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Roper. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Roper stands up and waves to Cheechoo to follow him.

Cheechoo scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Cheechoo is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Cheechoo lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Cheechoo is working for a submission of some sort.

Cheechoo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Roper does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Roper is on top in guard.
Roper wants to control from the top but Cheechoo keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Roper stands and throws Cheechoo's legs to the side, diving into side control.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round but I would say that James Roper will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Roper tries to clinch up.

Cheechoo fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Roper to the ground. Cheechoo is now in Roper's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Roper is on top in guard.
Roper trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Cheechoo manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Cheechoo avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Cheechoo got a little sloppy there for a moment and Roper has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cheechoo has managed to get both his arms back between Roper's legs - danger averted.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Roper has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cheechoo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Cheechoo is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Roper is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cheechoo defends well.
James Roper overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Roper cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Roper thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Cheechoo is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Cheechoo slaps away a takedown attempt from Roper, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Cheechoo lands a slapping body shot.
Roper tries to score a power double leg takedown but Cheechoo sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Roper somewhat.
Roper avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Cheechoo is looking to clinch but Roper is avoiding it.
Roper swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Cheechoo tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Roper manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Roper misses with a takedown attempt - Cheechoo sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Cheechoo wants to take a breather but Roper is having none of it.

Cheechoo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Roper is just riding it out for now. Cheechoo eventually gives up the hold.

Roper manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Roper swings for the body but Cheechoo moves out of range.

Roper tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Cheechoo was well out of range. Poor timing from Roper.
Cheechoo moves to clinch but Roper breaks away
and Roper counters with a nice uppercut.
Cheechoo takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Cheechoo displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Roper.

Cheechoo shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Cheechoo is looking to take a break and control but Roper is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Roper makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Roper.

Roper has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Cheechoo doesn't defend quickly enough and Roper has managed to lock this one up! Can Cheechoo escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Roper on a fantastic submission victory.
