3 - 6 - 1, fighting out of New York, Takeyou Down! The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Alyssa Summers and Anthony Taglia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Down shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Johnson steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Down. Johnson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Down paws at him with a jab and circles away. Johnson scores a takedown into full mount! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Johnson trying to control but he's not successful this time. Down is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Down tries to get back to half guard but can't. Johnson looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Johnson lands a nice shot to the head. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Down can do anything to dispel that myth. Johnson tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. It looks like Takeyou Down has been cut. Johnson prevents Down from getting the reversal. Johnson lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Johnson has control of Down's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Down regains control of the situation pretty easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Down is hanging on here. He's in a desperate position. Johnson pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Down holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Johnson tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Johnson stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing. Johnson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Down manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Down misses with a low kick. A combination from Johnson does no damage. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Johnson scores with a jab to the jaw.
That has opened up Takeyou Down's cut even more. Johnson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Rebel Johnson wasn't doing enough on the ground. Johnson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Down looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Johnson trying to control the position but Down is working away. Johnson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Down, who protects the arm well. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Down is not content to let Johnson control the position. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Johnson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Down knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Down wants to control but Johnson postures up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Down ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Johnson moves away. Johnson clinches. Johnson gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Down.
Johnson tightens his grip and picks Down up, before dumping him to the ground. Down manages to land in guard. Down trying to control the position.

Johnson looking to sit in guard and control but Down gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Johnson has a closed guard, preventing Down from standing up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Some bone on bone action there as Johnson checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Rebel Johnson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Down bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Johnson's guard. Johnson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Down wants to stand but Johnson is controlling his posture from full guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
