PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jake Barbossa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nevar Fury (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jake Barbossa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Nevar Fury!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Roger Salmon and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barbossa lands a nice shot to the body.
Barbossa darts in and out, connecting with a jab.


It looks like Nevar Fury has been cut.
Fury throws a series of punches but Barbossa moves out of range.
Barbossa avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Barbossa shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Fury tries to land a leg kick but Barbossa saw it coming and moves away.
Barbossa checks a low kick from Fury.
Fury scores with a jab. Barbossa acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Barbossa shoots in for a double leg but Fury sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Fury looks to land a combination but Barbossa avoids it well.
Barbossa just misses with a punch to the body.
Barbossa shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake Barbossa. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fury shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Barbossa fails to land the takedown.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Fury takes a shot to the body in his stride.
The fight stays on the outside here - Barbossa looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Fury circles away from the clinch attempt.

Fury fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Barbossa is out of range.
Barbossa is looking to clinch but Fury is avoiding it.
Barbossa shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Fury defends it nicely.
A solid leg kick lands there for Fury.
Fury tries to score with a low kick but Barbossa moves his leg out of the way.

Barbossa closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Fury quickly recovers to half guard.

Barbossa is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Barbossa perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Fury wants to get back to full guard.
Barbossa moves nicely into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fury is looking to reverse the position.
Barbossa is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Fury will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Barbossa thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Barbossa tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Barbossa decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Barbossa fails with a takedown attempt.
Barbossa throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Barbossa fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Fury avoids it really well and circles away.
Barbossa moves in looking to clinch but Fury pushes him off.

Fury gets tackled into the cage by Barbossa. Barbossa maintains the clinch.

Fury gets control of Barbossa's arms and successfully pulls guard. Fury will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Fury is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Barbossa is aware though and is defending well.
Barbossa passes Fury's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Barbossa throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Fury to regain full guard.

Barbossa is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Fury is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Fury has escaped and now he's on top!
Fury won't allow Barbossa to sweep him here.

Fury postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Barbossa has his foot on Fury's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Fury works his way back into a safe position though.
Fury sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Barbossa's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Barbossa is defending against the submission attempts here by Fury.
Barbossa slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Barbossa dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Nevar Fury's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Fury will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Barbossa looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Barbossa uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Fury.
Fury throws a leg kick but Barbossa checks it.

Fury decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Barbossa is defending against the submission attempts here by Fury.

Fury seems to be looking for submissions.
Jake Barbossa overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Barbossa is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Fury's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Fury's back!

Barbossa biding his time, looking for the opening.

Barbossa working for a choke but Fury is defending well.

Barbossa has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Fury has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Barbossa sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! Fury taps out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jake Barbossa!
