Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Darnell Sandifer!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jimmy Young!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Chad Campbell and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sandifer looks to land a combination but Young avoids it well.
Young lands with an overhand left.
Sandifer moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Sandifer throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Young misses with a looping right.
A nice leg kick lands there from Sandifer.
Sandifer fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Young manages to avoid it.
Sandifer lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Sandifer works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Young misses with a hook to the body
and Young takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Sandifer's corner calls for a 1-2. Sandifer obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Young connects with a crisp jab.
Sandifer looks for the body kick but Young saw that one coming.
Sandifer moves away from the strike by Young.
Sandifer throws a series of strikes that have Young backpedaling.
Sandifer throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Sandifer lands with a thumping leg kick.
Sandifer really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Young throws a jab when Sandifer was well out of range.
Young throws a lazy uppercut
and Sandifer counters with a two punch combo.
Sandifer scores with the left hand. Young knows he should have avoided that one.
Sandifer ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Sandifer lands with an uppercut that bounces Young off the cage and back into range.


Young is rocked!
Young misses with a body shot.
Young is still on wobbly legs! Can Sandifer finish him?
Sandifer is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Young throws a big shot that misses.
Sandifer scores with a jab to the body.
Young misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Sandifer.
Young seems to have recovered his senses.
Sandifer throws a nice looking combination but Young bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Sandifer changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Darnell Sandifer is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Sandifer lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Young at a distance.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sandifer takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Young shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Young connects with a nice short shot to Sandifer's temple.

Young thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Sandifer's head.
Sandifer keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Young frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Young with shots to the head and body - Sandifer looks very uncomfortable down there.

A nice elbow there by Young.
Young connects with a couple of good shots from mount.


Sandifer is rocked!
Young throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Sandifer because Young loaded up on that one.
Oh Sandifer is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Young is landing with some decent strikes but Sandifer is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
A nice elbow there by Young.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Young working for a guillotine from mount but Sandifer is in no mood to give up.
Sandifer on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Sandifer tries to get out of the position.
Young throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Young cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Sandifer tries to hold on but Young postures up.
Sandifer seems to have got his legs back now.

Sandifer is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Young locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Sandifer is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jimmy Young! Jimmy Young retains his featherweight title!
An out of breath Jimmy Young thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
