PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mikey Proctor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raoul Duke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mikey Proctor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Raoul Duke!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Alan Glass and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duke pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Duke misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Duke tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Proctor shoots for a takedown but Duke saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Proctor shoots in and drives through. Duke sprawls well.
Proctor shoots in looking for a takedown. Duke tries to sprawl out of it but Proctor keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Duke manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mikey Proctor. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Duke throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Proctor throws a right and a left that Duke avoids nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Proctor fails to land the takedown.
Duke wants to clinch up but Proctor keeps it at a distance.
Duke keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

A lull in the action here as Duke stalls from top position.
Proctor is trying to improve his position.
Duke throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Duke fails to land a wild elbow strike.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Duke has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Raoul Duke seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Proctor chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Duke can pounce on him.
Proctor fails with the takedown
and Duke counters with a body kick that stops Proctor in his tracks momentarily.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Proctor.
The fight stays on the outside here - Duke looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Duke misses with a head kick.
Duke looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
A right-left combo lands from Duke.

Duke tries to close the distance and clinch up but Proctor swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Proctor takes a swing at Duke's ribcage but misses.

Duke throws a head kick but Proctor moves out of range.
Duke moves in looking to clinch but Proctor pushes him off.
Proctor swats away the attempt to clinch by Duke.
Proctor misses with a kick to the body.
Proctor gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Duke counters with a single leg into guard. Proctor didn't expect that.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Proctor is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Duke stopping the sweep attempt from Proctor.
Proctor controls Duke momentarily but Duke frees himself.

Proctor has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Duke can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Raoul Duke dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Duke lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Proctor backs up against the cage.
Nice takedown defense from Duke. No joy for Proctor on that attempt.
Duke throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Proctor.
Duke wants to clinch up but Proctor keeps it at a distance.
Proctor shoots in looking for a takedown. Duke tries to sprawl out of it but Proctor keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Duke manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Duke throws a body kick that misses.

Proctor gets a takedown into half guard.

Duke looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Duke makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Duke.
Duke is trying to keep Proctor in close.
Proctor tries to free his leg and advance position but Duke is retaining full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Proctor won't allow Duke to sweep him here.
Proctor trying to control the position from guard on top but Duke is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Duke can't keep his opponent in guard - Proctor advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Proctor is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Duke tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Duke is looking to improve his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Duke wants to get back to full guard but Proctor has mounted him!

Proctor is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Duke has managed to free his arm - good work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Proctor is thwarting Duke's attempts to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Raoul Duke will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Duke throws a push kick but Proctor slaps the foot to one side.
Duke rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Proctor moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Duke tries to close the distance and clinch up but Proctor swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Proctor throws a leg kick but Duke sees it coming and moves out of range.
Duke throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Duke counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Duke.
Proctor manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Duke is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Proctor swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Duke is now in Proctor's guard. A big mistake from Proctor there, giving up the dominant position!

Proctor working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Duke doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Duke manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Duke throwing strikes from guard but Proctor blocks nicely.
Duke postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Duke with a flurry of punches that miss.
Duke pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Proctor is keeping the position for now.
Proctor is pulling down on Duke's head. It's preventing any offense from Duke, at least for the moment.
Duke stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Proctor swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Mikey Proctor has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Duke makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Proctor trying to keep a closed guard but Duke is proving a slippery customer.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Proctor avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

and Duke counters with a nice double leg into side control. Proctor won't be happy with that.

Duke is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Proctor is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Duke takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Duke trying to control the action but Proctor is working from the bottom.

And that's the end of the fight!
Raoul Duke comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Duke has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
