PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Matt Beal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leslie Morrow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Morrow's choice of entrance music: In The Air Tonight by Nonpoint. Leslie Morrow is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Wesley Smith and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beal lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Leslie Morrow seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Beal connects with a high kick.
Beal stuns Morrow with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Beal lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Beal lands with a kick to the temple. Morrow shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Beal lands a nice leg kick that just misses Morrow's sensitive parts.
Horrible takedown by Morrow or perhaps it was just good defense by Beal which made him look bad.

Beal can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Morrow controls the pace.
Morrow stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Beal swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Morrow takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

Morrow feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Beal wants to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Morrow wants to control but Beal is keeping him busy.
Morrow wants to pass to mount but Beal is defending the position.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Morrow throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Beal's waist but Beal gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Morrow off to one side.
Beal throws a front kick that sends Morrow stumbling back into the cage.
Morrow sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Beal cracks the inside of Morrow's front leg.
Beal scores with a nice body kick.
Beal connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Morrow takes a kick to the side of the head.
Morrow misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Beal pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Morrow shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Beal but Beal pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Beal feints and then cracks Morrow's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Morrow down.

Morrow throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Beal because Morrow loaded up on that one.

Morrow throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Morrow pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Morrow looking to finish with strikes here!
Beal is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

Morrow is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Beal can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Morrow landing punches.
Beal keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Morrow has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Beal is trying desperately to improve position.
Beal sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Morrow stops Beal from getting back to his feet.
Morrow is tying to control. Beal wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Morrow prevents Beal from standing back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Morrow scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Beal stops Morrow from passing to mount.

Morrow wants to control but Beal is keeping him busy.
Morrow takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Morrow works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Morrow wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Beal, who protects the arm well.
Beal can't do much from the bottom here.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Beal lands with a thumping leg kick.
Beal thuds his shin into the meat of Morrow's side.
Beal lands a head kick. Morrow smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Morrow shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Morrow showed some decent athleticism there.

Morrow looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Leslie Morrow has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Morrow stalling.
Beal is staying active underneath Morrow, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
