The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Renton fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Renton shoots for a takedown but Kowalski saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Kowalski clinches. Kowalski prevents the takedown attempt.
Piotr Kowalski has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Renton. Kowalski looking to stall.
Renton tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Renton drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kowalski pulls his leg out and moves away.
Renton shoots in for a takedown but Kowalski shows good takedown defense. Renton gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Renton can't keep his opponent in guard - Kowalski advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Renton tries to roll over but Kowalski keeps him under control. Kowalski seems to be working for a kimura but Renton defends the submission attempt. Kowalski is pressing down on Renton's thigh, looking to free his foot. Renton is holding on for now. Renton is trying to get back to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kowalski wants to work for an arm triangle but Renton is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Kowalski is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Renton defends it well. Kowalski is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kowalski prevents Renton from improving his position. Kowalski wants to work for an arm triangle but Renton is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Kowalski is breathing heavily. The fighters are battling for position here. Renton manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Renton keeping full guard, as Kowalski tries to pass. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Renton is on top in guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Renton tries to free his leg and advance position but Kowalski is retaining full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kowalski is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Renton must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Kowalski working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Renton doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Kowalski is tightening it up a little... Renton has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Renton reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Renton taps out! nice BJJ there by Kowalski!
