The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

madgwick drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
madgwick trying to control the position but purple is working away.
madgwick is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down purple's shoulder. That is not cool.
purple wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee stands the fighters back up. masicer madgwick just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
purple throws a leg kick which misses madgwick's front leg but catches the back leg as madgwick tries to avoid it.
madgwick shoots in for a double leg but purple sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

purple manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. madgwick manages to get himself to full guard.
purple won't allow madgwick to sweep him here.
purple wanted to stand there but madgwick had control of the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
purple is looking to stand up but madgwick won't let him.

purple gets to his feet. madgwick looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

madgwick is breathing heavily.
madgwick changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. purple tries to avoid it but madgwick manages to keep hold of a leg and drag purple to the ground. purple escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

so madgwick counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

and madgwick counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

madgwick really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

purple gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
purple is pressed up against the cage. madgwick has hold of a leg and is looking to drag purple down to the mat. purple avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

and madgwick counters with a nice double leg into side control. purple won't be happy with that.
madgwick is looking to take a break and control but purple is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
purple regains half guard.

purple tries to get to full guard but madgwick has control of the leg.
madgwick is thwarting purple's attempts to control the position.
purple is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
purple keeping hold of madgwick's head, controlling as best he can.
madgwick will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
purple wants to improve his position but madgwick is controlling well.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
purple tries to kick madgwick off but madgwick keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
madgwick is just content to waste time from the top position. purple takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

madgwick looks for a takedown but purple sprawls well.
purple goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

and purple counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for madgwick!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
madgwick tries to lock up and control but purple gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
purple tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
madgwick is trying desperately to improve position.
madgwick is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

purple takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
madgwick is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
mr purple has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The referee warns madgwick that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
