Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lee Chao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patryk Szczerbiec (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chao comes to the cage accompanied by Metallica-The Unforgiven. Patryk Szczerbiec struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 171.1lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lee Chao! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Patryk Szczerbiec! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Chao with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Szczerbiec to score with a decent uppercut. Chao changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Szczerbiec tries to avoid it but Chao manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Szczerbiec to the ground. Szczerbiec escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Chao looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Szczerbiec is fending him off so far but Chao persists. Nope, Szczerbiec circles away and we're back to standing. Chao takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. Chao dives in and grabs Szczerbiec's left leg, looking for a takedown. Szczerbiec pushes down on Chao's head and hops out. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lee Chao. That's going to take a lot out of him. Nice sprawl there from Szczerbiec as Chao shoots in. Szczerbiec throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Chao moves into the clinch. Chao wants to take the fight to the mat but Szczerbiec manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. The referee calls for Chao to work.
Chao blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Chao gets control of Szczerbiec's arms and successfully pulls guard. Chao will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Szczerbiec working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Chao avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Szczerbiec throws a big elbow that misses. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Chao not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Chao working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Szczerbiec doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Szczerbiec manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Chao has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Chao is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Chao is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Szczerbiec defends well. Szczerbiec throws a strike but Chao rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Chao stops Szczerbiec from standing up. Chao tries to free his leg and advance position but Szczerbiec is retaining full guard. Szczerbiec is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Chao might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Chao is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Szczerbiec wants to stand up but Chao is controlling him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Chao is looking to work some ground and pound but Szczerbiec has wrist control. Chao throwing strikes from guard but Szczerbiec blocks nicely. Szczerbiec looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Chao has picked Szczerbiec up and slammed him! Szczerbiec can't keep hold of the triangle and Chao manages to pass to side control! Chao in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Chao tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Szczerbiec wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Szczerbiec takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Chao lands a few punches from side control. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Szczerbiec on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Chao trying to control the action but Szczerbiec is working from the bottom. Chao is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Szczerbiec has escaped the position, nice work there. Szczerbiec gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Chao has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Szczerbiec really wants to buck Chao off and get back to his feet. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Chao dominating with strikes here.

Szczerbiec throws a right hand that Chao ducks under and follows up with a left that Chao also avoids with ease. Chao fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Chao looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lee Chao. That's going to take a lot out of him. Chao takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards. Szczerbiec seems to have recovered his senses. Chao chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Szczerbiec can pounce on him.
Szczerbiec looks to score with a jab to the body but Chao is just out of range. It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Chao here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man. Chao shoots for a double leg takedown but Szczerbiec sprawls well. He's pushed Chao's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Szczerbiec lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt. Patryk Szczerbiec seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A decent looking cross lands there for Szczerbiec. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Szczerbiec is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Chao. Chao shoots for a takedown but Szczerbiec saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Szczerbiec defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Chao.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Chao shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Szczerbiec but Szczerbiec pushes him off and we're back to square one. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Szczerbiec misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Chao.
Szczerbiec is fighting off a takedown attempt but Chao is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Szczerbiec to the mat. Szczerbiec regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Chao passes into half guard under a barage of strikes. Chao thows a huge punch but Szczerbiec dodges it nicely.

Chao lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Chao wants to work for an arm triangle but Szczerbiec is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Chao cracks Szczerbiec with an elbow. That is naaassty. Szczerbiec really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Chao. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Szczerbiec is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Szczerbiec is pushing Chao's head away, looking to escape. Chao manages to hold on to the position though. Chao working the body and head with strikes. Lee Chao overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Chao scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Szczerbiec is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Chao can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:37 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Lee Chao! After winning the bout, Lee Chao thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
