PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jack Balance (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akis Karakantes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Karakantes has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jack Balance!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Akis Karakantes!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Johanna Lukiainen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Karakantes gets tackled into the cage by Balance. Balance maintains the clinch.

Balance wants the takedown. Karakantes is fighting it off but Balance persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Karakantes's guard against the cage.
Balance is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Balance landing some decent shots from guard.
Balance controls from within his opponent's guard.
Karakantes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Balance. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Karakantes looks gassed!
Balance is pushing down on Karakantes's leg trying to pass to half guard. Karakantes is fighting to maintain full guard but Balance has managed to sneak the leg through.
Karakantes has hold of Balance's hands but Balance slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Balance is figuring out what he wants to do next.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Karakantes can do anything to dispel that myth.
Karakantes wants to control but Balance is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Karakantes looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Balance perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Balance lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Balance connects with a nice short shot to Karakantes's temple.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Balance takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Balance passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Karakantes!
Balance looking to finish Karakantes with some ground and pound. This is bad for Karakantes!
Balance content just to control the position here.
Karakantes is trying to escape the mount.
Balance controlling the position easily from mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Balance putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!

Karakantes has left one of his arms exposed and Balance doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Karakantes screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
