3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Yury Vesnev! The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Aafke Stam and Nard Betker.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A swing and a miss from Spar. Spar throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Vesnev lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Spar at a distance.
Spar doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Wrestling Spar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Spar throws a poor cross that misses
and Vesnev counters with a nice body shot. Spar shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Vesnev as he avoids it easily. Vesnev bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. A swing and a miss from Vesnev. Nice defenses there by Spar. A telegraphed right hand from Spar misses the target. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Spar checks a leg kick. A looping hook to the body misses from Spar. Vesnev does a little dance to reset his feet. Spar misses with a hook. Vesnev uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Spar.
A chopping leg kick lands by Spar. Vesnev avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Spar fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Vesnev throws a hook but Spar blocks it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vesnev misses with a looping right. Vesnev closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Vesnev misses with a body shot.
Spar tries to close the distance and clinch up but Vesnev swats him away and circles back towards the center. Vesnev throws a right hand that Spar ducks under and follows up with a left that Spar also avoids with ease. Vesnev scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. An elbow from Vesnev crashes against the mat.
Spar is looking for a sweep. Spar tries to strike but it doesn't land. Spar wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Spar is looking for a sweep. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Spar is trying to control Vesnev's posture but Vesnev avoids it.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Vesnev is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Spar is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Vesnev in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Vesnev looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Vesnev scores with punches from side control.

Spar is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Spar trying to get back to full guard but Vesnev takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! Vesnev is in the full mount, landing strikes. Vesnev scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Spar?
Spar tries to hold on but Vesnev pushes him away. Spar is looking to improve his position but Vesnev isn't that keen on the idea.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Vesnev working Spar over with strikes here. This has been an exciting period of action! Vesnev lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Spar hang on? Spar tries to get back to half guard but can't. Vesnev lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Vesnev is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Spar can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Spar is rocked! Spar is desperately trying to improve his position but Vesnev has a good base and remains in mount. Oh Spar is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Vesnev can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Spar is looking to escape. Vesnev scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Spar?
Vesnev dominating with strikes here. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Vesnev lands a big shot to the head and Spar winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!
