Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Zag Luis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Franz Weimar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Weimar has chosen Steve Vai - Bad Horsie as his entrance music. Franz Weimar struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 186.1lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Zag Luis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Franz Weimar! The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Aafke Stam and Albert Achterberg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Luis shoots in looking for a takedown but Weimar manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Luis's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Luis shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Luis shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Weimar pinned against the cage. Weimar gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Zag Luis. That's going to take a lot out of him. A bone on bone clash there as Luis blocks the leg kick.
Weimar moves into range and clinches up with Luis. Luis has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Weimar is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Weimar is pressed up against the cage. Luis has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Weimar down to the mat. Weimar avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Weimar connects with a single shot there.
It looks like Zag Luis has been cut. Weimar lands with a straight right. Luis didn't see that one coming. Weimar throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Luis shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Luis misses with a few strikes there.
Luis takes one on the button. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Weimar misses with a wild combination.
That's one minute gone in the round. Weimar throws out a powerful jab. Weimar throws a head kick but Luis moves out of range.
Weimar throws a right hand that Luis ducks under and follows up with a left that Luis also avoids with ease. Franz Weimar is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Luis shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Weimar pinned against the cage. Weimar gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Luis fails with the takedown and Luis takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Franz Weimar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Weimar moves into the clinch. Weimar scores with a hook to the body. Weimar lands a body punch. Weimar lands a left hand.
Weimar lands a right hand. Weimar is leaning against Luis and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Weimar throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Luiss head. Luis gets a trip takedown into half guard. Luis is breathing heavily. Weimar is trying to stand back up but Luis is controlling him
Luis seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Weimar does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Weimar trying to hold on to Luis's head to control him but Luis postures up.
Weimar is looking to escape. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Weimar kicks off Luis and gets to his feet. Weimar is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Luis takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Jab, jab by Weimar - just one landing.
Luis is rocked! Weimar connects with a good right hand that stumbles Luis. Luis circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Oh Luis is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Luis tries to grapple but his opponent circles enabling Weimar to counter with a crisp jab. Weimar connects with a combination that backs up Luis into the cage. Weimar lands a flurry of punches that gets past Luis's guard. Luis is down and the referee has seen enough. It is all over! Weimar bursts into tears - this win obviously means a huge amount to him.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:17 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Franz Weimar! An out of breath Franz Weimar thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
