PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mike Kroon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Marcos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mike Kroon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, David Marcos!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Saam Ante and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kroon shoots and misses

and Marcos counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Kroon's guard now.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Marcos is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Marcos lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Marcos sitting in guard here, content to control.
Marcos throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kroon works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Kroon is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Marcos is aware though and is defending well.
Marcos missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kroon can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Marcos controls the pace.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. David Marcos wasn't active enough on the ground.

Marcos closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Kroon's guard.
Marcos sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Marcos's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Marcos drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Kroon manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Marcos has Kroon in his guard.
Kroon wants to control from the top but Marcos keeps moving.
Marcos pulls Kroon in close to prevent any damage.

OK we're going to have a standup here. David Marcos hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Kroon shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Marcos counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Marcos.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Marcos.
Marcos is pressed up against the cage. Kroon has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Marcos down to the mat. Marcos avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Kroon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Marcos shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kroon sprawls well. Kroon wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Marcos gets slowly back to his feet.

Marcos bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Kroon tries to bench press Marcos off him but Marcos keeps the position.

Marcos cracks Kroon with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Marcos decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Kroon tries to keep at a distance but Marcos has taken the fight into the clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kroon is trying to drag Marcos to the mat but Marcos just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Marcos dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Marcos rushes Kroon and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Kroon is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Marcos is defending well.
Kroon prevents the takedown attempt.

Marcos has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Kroon regains guard immediately.
Marcos throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kroon works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Kroon is looking to stand up but Marcos isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. David Marcos wasn't active enough on the ground.
Kroon shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Marcos defends it nicely.

Kroon tries to score a power double leg takedown but Marcos sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kroon somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Kroon. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Marcos gets a clinch.
Kroon changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Marcos fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Marcos tries for a takedown but Kroon sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Marcos throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kroon's waist but Kroon gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Marcos off to one side.
Kroon keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Marcos closes the distance and clinches.
Kroon can't get the takedown.

Marcos is looking to take this one to the mat.
Kroon drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Kroon goes for a takedown attempt but Marcos pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Kroon shoots in for a takedown but Marcos shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Marcos shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Marcos showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Kroon's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Marcos closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Kroon did well to prevent Marcos getting side control.
Marcos wants to control but Kroon is keeping him busy.
Marcos controlling the action here.
Marcos passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Kroon!
Marcos is landing with some decent strikes but Kroon is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Kroon really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Kroon is squirming around, avoiding Marcos's attempts to control the action.

Let's hope that Marcos has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. David Marcos wasn't active enough on the ground.
Kroon has his takedown stuffed

and Marcos counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
David Marcos has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kroon has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Marcos is working away from the top position though.
Marcos prevents Kroon from standing back up.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Well, if Marcos is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Kroon is trying to stand back up but Marcos is controlling him
Marcos winds up and cracks Kroon with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Marcos looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The ref stands the fighters back up. David Marcos was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Kroon shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Marcos instigates a clinch.
Marcos manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Kroon is trying to drag Marcos to the mat but Marcos just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Marcos goes for a takedown attempt but Kroon pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Marcos fails with the takedown.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Kroon scores a takedown into full mount!

And that's the end of the fight!
David Marcos comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Marcos has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3 rounds of action, we go to the scorecards for a decision.
