PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ken Hall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gorilla Monsoon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hall's entrance music is Fire storm. A fine choice. The crowd seem to be enjoying Monsoon's choice of entrance music: Mangled Up Mess by Morbid Angel. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ken Hall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gorilla Monsoon!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monsoon jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Hall moves forwards but Monsoon connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Hall tries to close the distance and clinch but Monsoon swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hall avoids a punch combination nicely.
Hall slips under a jab from Monsoon.

Hall moves into the clinch successfully.

Hall manages to break the clinch.
Hall takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

and Monsoon counters with a nice body shot.
Monsoon misses with a few strikes there.
Monsoon lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Hall tries to score a power double leg takedown but Monsoon sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hall somewhat.
Monsoon lands a lovely overhand right.

A nice combination there by Monsoon.
Hall tries for a takedown but Monsoon circles away easily
and Hall takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ken Hall. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A left lands for Monsoon.

Hall closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Monsoon tries to improve position but can't.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Monsoon can do anything to dispel that myth.
Hall misses with the ground and pound.
Hall wants to lay and pray for a moment but Monsoon keeps working.
Monsoon avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Hall.
Hall is looking to take a break and control but Monsoon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Hall tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hall wants to lay and pray for a moment but Monsoon keeps working.

Hall is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Monsoon is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Monsoon is pushing Hall's head away, looking to escape. Hall manages to hold on to the position though.

Hall working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Hall landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Monsoon managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Hall.
Monsoon avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Hall.
An elbow from Hall crashes against the mat.

Monsoon is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Hall is controlling him well.
Monsoon is trying to escape the position but Hall is controlling the position.
Hall prevents Monsoon from escaping the position.

Hall wants to control but Monsoon is keeping him busy.
Hall tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Monsoon is trying to get back to half guard.
Hall moves into full mount!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hall controlling his opponent.
Hall has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Hall avoids the attempt from Monsoon to control.
Hall trying to control but Monsoon is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Monsoon tries to lock up and control but Hall gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Monsoon in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ken Hall dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Monsoon lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Monsoon scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Monsoon throws a combination. Hall tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
A cross from Monsoon lands.
Hall fails with a takedown attempt.
Hall takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Hall has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Hall there as he acknowledges the shot.
Nice sprawl there from Monsoon as Hall shoots in.
Monsoon stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Monsoon wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ken Hall. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Monsoon scores with a shot to the body.
Horrible takedown by Hall or perhaps it was just good defense by Monsoon which made him look bad.
Monsoon throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Monsoon lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Monsoon fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Hall looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Monsoon cracks Hall with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Monsoon shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Hall eats them both and turns towards Monsoon to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Hall shoots in but no luck this time.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hall drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Hall is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Donk. Monsoon catches Hall right on the button with a cross.
Monsoon throws a one two combo.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Monsoon cracks Hall with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Gorilla Monsoon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Monsoon moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Hall looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
Hall walks into a straight right hand from Monsoon.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hall wants to clinch up but Monsoon keeps it at a distance.
Monsoon fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Monsoon changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hall tries to avoid it but Monsoon manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hall to the ground. Hall escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Monsoon punishes Hall's body with a nice straight punch.
Hall ducks right into an uppercut from Monsoon.
Monsoon catches Hall with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Monsoon shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hall pinned against the cage. Hall gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Monsoon lands a body shot.
Hall fails with a takedown attempt.
Monsoon scores with a sloppy right hand. Hall should have avoided that one.

Monsoon throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Hall shoots in for a double leg but Monsoon sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Monsoon rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hall moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Gorilla Monsoon seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Monsoon avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Hall takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Monsoon throws a combination. Hall tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Hall walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Hall fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Jab from Monsoon.
Hall gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Hall looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Hall throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Monsoon lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hall circles away quickly and effectively.
Monsoon scores with a jab.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hall takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Danga de danga de dang - Monsoon scores with a four punch combination!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Monsoon.
Jab, jab by Monsoon - just one landing.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Gorilla Monsoon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Hall closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Monsoon's guard.
Hall forces his way into half guard.
Hall working the head and body with strikes.
Hall is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Hall lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Hall throwing shots but Monsoon is blocking nicely.
Monsoon is refusing to be controlled, as Hall sits in half guard.
Monsoon is trying to stand back up but Hall is controlling him
Monsoon tries to roll over but Hall keeps him under control.

Hall looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Hall wants to take a breather but Monsoon is having none of it.
Hall works his foot free and advances to mount.
Hall with shots to the head and body - Monsoon looks very uncomfortable down there.
Monsoon trying desperately to get to his feet.

Hall jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Monsoon manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Monsoon wants to get back to his feet but Hall drags him back down.
Hall creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Hall grinds an elbow into Monsoon's temple.
Monsoon tries to bench press Hall off him but Hall keeps the position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hall tries to score with some ground and pound. Monsoon controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Monsoon struggling a bit here.

Hall looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Hall wants to lay and pray for a moment but Monsoon keeps working.
Monsoon pushes Hall away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Hall gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Hall postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Hall is looking to take a break and control but Monsoon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Hall tries to move to mount but Monsoon blocks the move with his legs.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hall works to advance to full mount. Monsoon defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Monsoon is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Hall looking to control but Monsoon is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
A nice elbow there by Hall.

Hall is working for a guillotine from mount but Monsoon frees his head quite easily.
Monsoon is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Monsoon is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
The referee warns Monsoon that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Monsoon is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Hall putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!

Monsoon is looking to get to half guard.
Hall controlling from the full mount.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Monsoon keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Hall trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Monsoon is working to get back to half guard.
Monsoon is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Monsoon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hall. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Ken Hall showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Hall has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
