The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Damme keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Rua.
Rua will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
The fighters circling - Van Damme throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Van Damme throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Rua counters with a left and a right that stings Van Damme.
Van Damme ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rua moves away.
Rua lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Rua has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Rua there as he acknowledges the shot.

It looks like Anderson Rua has been cut.
Anderson Rua seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rua looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Rua tries to bum rush Van Damme with a series of wild strikes but Van Damme uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Rua throws a predictable looking body shot

and Van Damme counters with a crisp right hand that drops Rua! Van Damme lets Rua back up to his feet, looking for a finish!
Rua looks to land a combination but Van Damme avoids it well.
Van Damme throws out a loose jab but Rua uses good head movement to avoid it.
A looping hook to the body misses from Van Damme. Rua does a little dance to reset his feet.
Van Damme takes a swing at Rua's ribcage but misses.

Van Damme throws an off balance right hand
and Rua counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Van Damme throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Van Damme misses with the combination.
Rua throws a left and a right that both miss
and Van Damme cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Rua misses with a straight right.
Rua lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Van Damme circles away quickly and effectively.
Rua swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Van Damme counters with a powerful cross that connects right on the chin and the lights go out! A massive one punch knock out!

A relieved looking Leopoldo Van Damme thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
