The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bannon cracks Boykin with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Boykin walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Boykin tries to close the distance and clinch but Bannon swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A slow jab from Bannon misses its intended target.
Boykin tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Bannon swivels and escapes.

Boykin shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Bannon is trying to defend but Boykin finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Boykin seems to be working for a kimura but Bannon defends the submission attempt.

Bannon pushes Boykin off and gets back to his feet.
Bannon misses the shot to the body.
Bannon keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Boykin.
Shannon Bannon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dimentiy Boykin.

Bannon wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Boykin shoots in for a takedown but Bannon shows good takedown defense.
Shannon Bannon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bannon connects with a body shot that sends Boykin's belly button to the back.
Boykin looks gassed!

Boykin drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Boykin is trying to get an arm triangle but Bannon is defending well.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The strikes coming from Boykin are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Bannon pushes Boykin away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Boykin gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Bannon knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Boykin on the ground.

Boykin is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Bannon has escaped the position, nice work there.
Boykin throws a strike aimed at the side of Bannon's head but Bannon avoids it well.
Bannon on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Bannon tries to get out of the position.

Boykin goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Bannon rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Boykin's guard! Nice work there by Bannon!

Boykin had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Bannon defends it easily.
Bannon wants to get up but he can't break Boykin's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Bannon avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Boykin has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bannon can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Bannon stands up from Boykin's guard - Bannon perhaps looking for a knockout.
Boykin misses with a takedown attempt - Bannon sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and Boykin counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Boykin loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Boykin postures up in Bannon's guard and throws a big left but Bannon blocks it.

Bannon working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Boykin.
Bannon manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Boykin manages to get himself to full guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bannon gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Boykin's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Bannon connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Boykin scrambles back to his feet.

Bannon lands a left and a right that send Boykin crashing to the mat, dazed. Bannon thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

It looks like Dimentiy Boykin has been cut.
