PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Young (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Turner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Turner has chosen shot to the dark by day to remember as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Young!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Josh Turner!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Ian Loll and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Young goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Turner will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Turner takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Young really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
An inside leg kick lands from Young.
Turner looks for a takedown but Young sprawls well.
Nice takedown defense from Turner. No joy for Young on that attempt.

Young moves into the clinch successfully.
Young working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.

Young has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Turner uses from the top position.

Young is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Young pulls Turner in close to prevent any damage.
Young keeping moving, preventing Turner from controlling successfully.

Young has an active guard here but Turner has managed to pass into half guard.
Turner keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Young has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Turner is working away from the top position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Turner thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Young's head.
Young wants to get back to full guard.
Turner seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Young is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Turner throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Young tries to get to full guard but Turner has control of the leg.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

James Young has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Josh Turner.

Good standup being displayed there by Young as he connects with a hook.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Young scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Turner shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Young counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Turner wants to control but Young passes easily into half guard.
Turner looks gassed!
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Young lands a nice short elbow.

Young is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Turner defends it well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Young with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Turner is in trouble now - Young has advanced to mount!
Young trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Young goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Turner turns into him and now he's in Young's guard.

Young looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Young looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Turner gets to his feet. Young looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Young shoots and misses

and Turner counters with a takedown into side control.
Turner tries to advance to mount but Young denies him.
Young is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Turner off and has taken his back!
Young biding his time, controlling Turner.
Young will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Young dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Young feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Young trying to control the position from guard on top but Turner is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Turner is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Young advances to half guard.

Young is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Turner has managed to free his arm - good work.
Turner keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Young prevents Turner from standing back up.
Young passes the guard and advances to mount!
Turner is breathing heavily.
Young postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Turner looks a forlorn figure.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Young is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Turner has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Turner!

Turner chips away with some ground and pound.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Young pulls Turner in close to prevent any damage.

Turner is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Young has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Turner is looking to defend but Young has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Turner! Young pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Turner taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). James Young!
