Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joko Diaz! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jason Boma! The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Nard Betker and Patrick Alders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Diaz throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Boma's waist but Boma gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Diaz off to one side. Diaz has a takedown stuffed. Joko Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Boma throws a nice looking combination but Diaz bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Boma fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Diaz manages to avoid it. Nice takedown defense from Boma. No joy for Diaz on that attempt. Boma is desperately trying to improve his position but Diaz has a good base and remains in mount. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Diaz is working for a guillotine from mount but Boma frees his head quite easily.

Diaz is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Boma to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Boma shrugs it off. Diaz moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Boma has worked his arm free - good work by Boma!
Boma is trying to control Diaz's posture but Diaz avoids it. Boma is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Boma really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Diaz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Boma defending against the ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Boma tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Diaz presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Diaz thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Diaz lands with some strikes. Boma scores with a crisp jab that stopped Diaz in his tracks. Jason Boma is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Diaz keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Diaz throws a push kick but Boma slaps the foot to one side. Diaz shoots and misses and Boma counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Diaz shoots in for a double leg but Boma sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Diaz. Diaz closes the distance and clinches up with Boma, looking for a takedown. Diaz pushes Boma against the cage but Boma circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Boma throws a lazy uppercut
and Diaz counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Boma's guard now. Joko Diaz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Boma wants to sweep but no luck. Boma is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Diaz working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Boma utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Boma not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Diaz trying to control the position from guard on top but Boma is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. This has been an exciting period of action!
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Boma misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Boma takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Boma throws a body punch but Diaz moves out of range.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Diaz fails with a takedown attempt. Diaz throws a head kick that misses. Diaz shoots in but no luck this time. Diaz misses with a takedown attempt - Boma sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Boma moves out of range as Diaz throws a body kick.
Boma moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Boma lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Boma falls off balance throwing a combination
and Diaz counters with a right hand to the body. Boma throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Boma throws a jab when Diaz was well out of range. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Boma throws a right and a left that Diaz avoids nicely. Diaz just misses with a punch to the body.

That will dishearten Diaz somewhat. Diaz misses with a body shot.

That was a close round but Joko Diaz did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Boma wants to stand but Diaz is controlling his posture from full guard. Diaz bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Boma's guard. Boma keeping moving, preventing Diaz from controlling successfully. Diaz drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Boma manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Diaz has Boma in his guard.

Diaz has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Boma is working away from the top position though. Diaz keeping hold of Boma's head, controlling as best he can. Sloppy strikes from Boma. Those never looked like landing. A shot to the liver by Boma. Beautiful body shot. Diaz thows a body shot but no joy. Boma swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Diaz shoots for a takedown but Boma saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Boma waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Diaz. Boma lands a jab to the nose. Boma looks to score with a jab to the body but Diaz is just out of range. Diaz dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Diaz shoots in but Boma avoids the takedown attempt easily. Diaz drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt. Boma tries to bench press Diaz off him but Diaz keeps the position.

Diaz thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Diaz is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Boma knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Diaz is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Boma is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Jason Boma has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Boma throws a few strikes from the bottom but Diaz takes advantage and mounts! Boma bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Joko Diaz is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Diaz working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Boma.
