Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Nam Kam! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ruben Waldez! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Felipe Paraventi and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kam lands a jab to the head.
Waldez walks into a left hand. Waldez throws a push kick but Kam slaps the foot to one side. Waldez motions for Kam to come forward. Waldez throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. Kam takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Kam throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Waldez needs to keep his hands up - Kam had a free shot at his head there. Waldez takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Kam is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. Waldez moves into range and clinches up with Kam. Kam is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Waldez pulls him back up using the underhooks. Kam blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily. Waldez tries a body shot but Kam blocks it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Waldez tries to work over Kam's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Waldez leaning his opponent against the cage. Waldez misses with a body punch.
Kam goes for a takedown attempt but Waldez pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Waldez fails in his attempt to clinch. A jab from Kam misses. Kam moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Waldez lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Kam has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Kam and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Kam thuds a left hand into Waldez's body.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Waldez pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Kam missing with a left hand there. Waldez was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Kam blocks a head kick by Waldez.
Kam looks to land a left hand but Waldez moved out of range nicely. A leg kick checked by Kam. Kam just misses with a punch to the body.
Waldez delivers a nice body kick. Waldez with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Kam tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Waldez was well out of range. Poor timing from Kam. Kam misses with a wild body shot. Waldez lands a nice looking kick to the body. Kam takes a step back to recover. Kam just misses with a punch to the body.
Ruben Waldez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Waldez avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Kam looks to throw the jab but Waldez is out of range. Thud! ouch! good body kick from Waldez - that will leave a mark!
Waldez defending well as Kam loads up on a big left hand. Waldez tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target. Waldez takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Kam takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Waldez goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Waldez keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Kam. Kam shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Kam was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Kam prevents Waldez from getting the reversal.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Waldez is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Kam working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Waldez looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Kam! Submission of the night perhaps?
