Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dante Sparda! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Devin Houle! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Houle with a poor takedown and Sparda counters with a three punch combo that has Houle backing up. Houle nods at Sparda to acknowledge the strikes. Houle slips a jab and a cross from Sparda.
A right-left combo lands from Sparda. A punch combination from Sparda misses. Sparda works over Houle's head and body with a nice combination. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Houle shoots in for a double leg but Sparda sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Houle tries for a takedown but Sparda circles away easily and Sparda counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Houle thinking. Dante Sparda has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Devin Houle. Houle with a poor takedown and Sparda counters with a stiff right hand. Sparda lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Sparda. Sparda swings for the body but Houle moves out of range.
Houle manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Sparda on his heels. He'll look to pass Sparda's guard now, I'm sure. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Houle looking to pass the guard. Houle pushes down on Sparda's leg and manages to get into half guard. Houle stops Sparda from getting back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Houle is looking to take a break and control but Sparda is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Sparda on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Sparda tries to get out of the position. Houle seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Houle is looking to stall here but Sparda recovers full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Houle trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Devin Houle hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Houle shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Houle shoots in but no luck this time. Houle tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sparda swivels and escapes. Devin Houle seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Houle drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Houle looking to sit in guard and control but Sparda gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Sparda won't allow Houle to sweep him here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Houle is trying to keep Sparda in close.
Sparda trying to control the position from guard on top but Houle is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Dante Sparda wasn't doing enough on the ground. Houle shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Houle looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Houle wants to work for an arm triangle but Sparda is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Dante Sparda will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Houle with a lazy takedown attempt letting Sparda counter with a right hand. Houle dives in and scores a takedown into Sparda's guard. Houle trying to control but Sparda is working from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Houle trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Houle won't allow Sparda to get back to his feet. Sparda keeping moving, preventing Houle from controlling successfully. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Devin Houle was stalling too much, according to the referee. Houle tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sparda sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Houle somewhat. Sparda scores with a jab.
That's one minute gone in the round. Houle fails with the takedown and Sparda connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Dante Sparda has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Devin Houle. Houle doesn't succeed with the takedown and Sparda counters with a left to the body. Houle drives through with a takedown into Sparda's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Houle content to stall in guard here. Sparda wants to stand and escape but Houle is having none of it. Houle trying to control but Sparda is working from the bottom.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Devin Houle wasn't active enough on the ground. Houle doesn't succeed with the takedown and Sparda counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Houle tries to move into range but Sparda moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Houle misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Houle with a poor takedown and Houle takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Dante Sparda is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Sparda drops Houle with a beautiful combination! Houle stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Sparda is looking for the KO!
Houle is rocked! Houle throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sparda's waist but Sparda gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Houle off to one side. Houle is still on wobbly legs! Can Sparda finish him? Houle is breathing heavily. Houle has his takedown stuffed and Sparda counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Houle takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Houle doesn't succeed with the takedown and Sparda counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Houle seems to have recovered his senses. Oooooh!!! Sparda has knocked Houle down with a huge combo! Sparda steps away and waves a wobbly Houle back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Houle bobbing and weaving nicely... He's ducked under a jab and ducks again but ooooooh! Sparda comes at him with an uppercut from hell! Houle falls to the canvas, unconscious! This one is all over! Oh man, looking at the replay that was right on the button! Houle was out before he hit the floor!
