2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aaron Fredriksson! The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Valeri Chadov and Igor Prikhodko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rua circles away from the clinch attempt.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Fredriksson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rua is one step ahead there. Rua trying to stand up but can't free himself from Fredriksson's guard. Fredriksson throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Rua stands and steps away. Fredriksson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Rua displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Fredriksson.

Rua loads up on a big right hand but Fredriksson slips the punch. Rua misses with a body kick. Fredriksson throws the left hand but Rua avoids the punch easily. Fredriksson thows a body shot but no joy. Rua drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Rua keeping moving, preventing Fredriksson from controlling successfully. Rua can't keep his opponent in guard - Fredriksson advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Rua is looking to escape. Good agility. This has been an exciting period of action! Fredriksson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Fredriksson pulls Rua in close to prevent any damage. Fredriksson is trying to control the position but Rua postures up. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Rua has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Fredriksson is proving hard to escape from.
