5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sergiy Kolisnyk! The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Sergei Dronov and Konstantin Menshow.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nigobson connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Nigobson looking for a takedown here - he's got it. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Nigobson works over Kolisnyk with some ground and pound from guard. Nigobson postures up and lands a big shot to Kolisnyk's brow. Nigobson passes easily into side control. Nice work. Kolisnyk misses with a strike from the bottom. Kolisnyk takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Nigobson looks up at the clock and then as Kolisnyk takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Nigobson smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. This has been an exciting period of action! Nigobson looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Kolisnyk gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Nigobson prevents Kolisnyk from improving his position. Still in half guard, Nigobson seems content to control. Nigobson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Nigobson wants to free his trapped foot but Kolisnyk is holding on for dear life with his legs. Nigobson is taking a breather. Kolisnyk says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nigobson is nestled in close to Kolisnyk, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Kolisnyk with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Nigobson trying to control the pace. Nigobson frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Nigobson scoring with strikes but Kolisnyk is staying in there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Nigobson putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Nigobson landing punches. Nigobson postures up and lands a whopping elbow - oh that's hurt Kolisnyk bigstyle! Two more strikes land for Nigobson and the fight is over!
