PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tom Duncan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mui Thai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duncan's entrance music is Haka . A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tom Duncan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 19 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mui Thai!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Tiny Johnson and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duncan misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Thai shoots in looking for a takedown. Duncan tries to sprawl out of it but Thai keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Duncan manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Duncan is looking to clinch.
Duncan on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Duncan finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Thai takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Thai shoots in but Duncan avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Duncan darts in and clinches Thai up against the cage.
Duncan tries to stall but Thai uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Duncan fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Thai wants to break free but Duncan has control.

Thai breaks from the clinch.
Duncan has his takedown stuffed
and Thai counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Sloppy strikes from Thai. Those never looked like landing.

Duncan closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Thai did well to prevent Duncan getting side control.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Duncan wants to free his trapped foot but Thai is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Duncan in particular looking to stall.
Duncan thows a huge punch but Thai dodges it nicely.

Thai is looking for a sweep. Duncan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Duncan is looking to advance position but Thai won't allow it.
Duncan wants to take a breather but Thai is having none of it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Duncan tries to clinch there but Thai circles away.

Duncan scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Duncan is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Thai reverses the position - he's now on top in Duncan's guard.
Thai is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Thai wants to control from the top but Duncan keeps moving.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Duncan swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Thai avoids the head kick by Duncan.
Duncan is looking to clinch but Thai is avoiding it.
Duncan lands a leg kick that knocks Thai off balance momentarily.
Duncan tries to clinch but Thai is having none of it.
Thai ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Duncan moves away.

Duncan shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Thai napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Thai tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Thai sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Duncan lands a nice short elbow.


It looks like Mui Thai has been cut.
Duncan is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Thai is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Duncan's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Duncan's back!
Tom Duncan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Thai tries to keep control of the position but Duncan is staying busy.
Duncan manages to reverse the position and now he's in Thai's guard. Nice work there by Duncan.
Duncan tries to free his leg and advance position but Thai is retaining full guard.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Duncan wants to control but Thai is keeping him busy.
Thai moves into full guard.
Duncan has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Duncan is really struggling to control Thai but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Thai wants to sweep here but Duncan controlling him for the moment.

Thai throws a big elbow that misses.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Thai shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Thai was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Duncan regains half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Duncan is trying to maintain the position but Thai is very close to passing his half guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tom Duncan dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Mui Thai's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Thai steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Duncan.
Duncan scores with a nice right hand.
Duncan looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Thai throws a lazy uppercut
and Duncan counters with a nice uppercut.
Duncan throws a sloppy head kick and Thai moves out of range easily.
Duncan misses with a low kick.
Duncan shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Thai counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Thai thows a leg kick but Duncan checks it
and Duncan makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Duncan lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.


That has opened up Mui Thai's cut even more.
Duncan pulls out of a head kick attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A slow jab from Duncan misses its intended target.
Thai throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Duncan sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Thai punishes Duncan's body with a nice straight punch.
Duncan throws a chopping leg kick but Thai manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

A head kick lands from Duncan that sends Thai to the canvas. Thai tries to scramble back to his feet but Duncan brings him back down into side control.


Thai is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Thai is still in real trouble! Can Duncan finish him?
Duncan wants to control but Thai is keeping him busy.
Thai seems to have recovered his senses.

Duncan goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Thai has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Duncan but great work by Thai.
Duncan is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Thai takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Thai working over Duncan with some ground and pound. Duncan looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Duncan moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Thai wants to control from the top but Duncan keeps moving.

Duncan has an active guard here but Thai has managed to pass into half guard.
Thai looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Duncan with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Thai is keen to just control but Duncan is a slippery customer.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Thai accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Mui Thai has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
