PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jason Babcock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chad Ward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Babcock comes to the cage accompanied by Headstrong. Ward is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Linkin Park - One Step Closer. Chad Ward has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jason Babcock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chad Ward!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Dillan Fox and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Babcock shoots in but Ward avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Ward gets the takedown into side control.

Ward decides to stand up, so the ref orders Babcock to his feet.

Babcock feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ward is on top in guard.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Ward's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Ward stands up over Babcock, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Babcock shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Babcock showed some decent athleticism there.
Ward pushes Babcock off looking to stand but Babcock dives back in and keeps control.

so Babcock counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Jason Babcock has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chad Ward.

Still in half guard, Babcock seems content to control.

Ward has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

and Babcock counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Babcock won't allow Ward to sweep him here.

Ward makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Ward.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ward wants to stand but Babcock is controlling the position.
Ward throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Ward manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jason Babcock dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Babcock is looking to clinch but Ward is avoiding it.
Babcock tries a head kick but it misses.
Babcock looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ward is fending him off so far but Babcock persists. Nope, Ward circles away and we're back to standing.

Ward fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Jason Babcock has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chad Ward.
Ward has Babcock pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Babcock manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Ward has hold of one of Babcock's legs. Babcock is fighting the takedown attempt but Ward gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ward accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Ward decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Babcock, up you get!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Babcock suckers Ward into throwing a sloppy strike and uses the momentum to reverse the position beautifully! Babcock is now in Ward's guard!

Chad Ward showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Ward has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Babcock off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Ward shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Ward was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ward has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Babcock is trying to keep an underhook but Ward manages to get the takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jason Babcock.
I think Babcock has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
