Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, James Russell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joe Money!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Money lands the left hand.
Russell tries to move into range but Money moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Sloppy strikes from Russell. Those never looked like landing.
Russell defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Money.
Money tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Russell throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Money's waist but Money gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Russell off to one side.

Money closes the distance and pushes Russell back into the cage.

Money breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Money fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Russell sprawls well initially but Money persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Money is controlling the pace.
Money's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Money wants to pass the guard but Russell is defending well.

Money decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Joe Money seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A solid leg kick lands there for Russell.
Russell has a takedown stuffed.
Russell wants to clinch.
Russell slips a jab and a cross from Money.
Money fails with the takedown.
Horrible takedown by Russell or perhaps it was just good defense by Money which made him look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Russell. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Russell will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Money tries to score a power double leg takedown but Russell sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Money somewhat.

Money looks gassed!

Russell tries to clinch but Money moves out of range.
Russell throws a hook to the side of Money's head but Money sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Russell. Money shrugs it off though.
Russell tries to clinch up but Money circles away and keeps his distance.

Russell rushes Money and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Money breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Money gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Russell counters with a takedown into side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Money is trying to improve his position.

Russell has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Russell taking a breather here.
Money sneaks back into half guard.
Still in half guard, Russell seems content to control.
Money moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Money looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Money controls Russell momentarily but Russell frees himself.

Russell won't allow Money to get back to his feet.
Russell wants to stand but Money is controlling his posture from full guard.
Russell stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Money swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Money is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Money is pulling down on Russell's head to control his posture.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Russell is looking to clinch but Money is avoiding it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Joe Money will probably get the nod.

Money gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Russell is looking for a sweep. Money is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Money thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Russell's head.

Money slows the pace down in half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Russell is working an open guard so Money takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Russell slaps away a takedown attempt from Money, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Russell gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Russell stops a takedown attempt from Money.
James Russell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Money.

Russell is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Money is defending well.
Money drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Russell gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Money takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Money fails in his attempt to clinch.

Russell has managed to clinch.

Russell's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
James Russell is winning the standup battle so far.
Money shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Russell but Russell pushes him off and we're back to square one.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Money tries to roll over but Russell keeps him under control.
Money is looking to escape.

Money manages to get to full guard.
Russell tries to free his leg and advance position but Money is retaining full guard.
Russell would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Money is adopting a defensive guard.
Russell stopping the sweep attempt from Money.
Russell trying to control the position from guard on top but Money is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of James Russell.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Russell enables Money to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Russell manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Money stays in close to Russell's body and controls the position.
Russell is trying to keep Money in close.
Money passes into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Money moves into full mount! Russell won't be happy about that!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Money avoids the attempt from Russell to control.

A close second round but Joe Money will probably get the nod - 10:9.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Money moves into the clinch.
Russell jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Money walks away with a smile on his face. Russell gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Money looking to score a takedown here. Russell is defending well but Money drives through and ends up in Russell's guard.
Russell is adopting a defensive guard.
Money is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Money wants to pass the guard but Russell is keeping the position.
Money forces his way into half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Money trying to pass the guard but Russell defending well.

Russell keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Russell trying to hold on to Money's head to control him but Money postures up.
Money passes the guard and advances to mount!
Money looking to control and managing it successfully.
Russell is squirming around, avoiding Money's attempts to control the action.
Money won't let Russell get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Money tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Russell is desperately trying to improve his position but Money has a good base and remains in mount.
Money looking to control and managing it successfully.
Let's hope that Money has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Joe Money wasn't active enough on the ground.

Money clinches up with Russell and pushes him back against the cage.

Money is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Russell can't fight it off and eventually Money manages to take the fight to the floor. Russell looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Joe Money has got the better of the ground game so far.
Money wants to control from the top but Russell keeps moving.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Russell is on top in guard.
Money wants to get back to his feet but Russell is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Money looking to hit a scissor sweep but Russell is one step ahead there.

Russell trying to control but Money is working from the bottom.
Money tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Money keeping moving, preventing Russell from controlling successfully.
Joe Money is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

We're going to have a standup here because James Russell wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Money fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Russell, pushing him back against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Joe Money comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Money has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
